Our workshop is at the heart of our business. We wouldn't have any puppets without our team who tirelessly tinker, prototype, sculpt, skin and finish, all the while considering the visibility, ergonomics and functionality for the puppeteers on stage. Just imagine a complex puppet mechanism without an even distribution of weight. Yucky. . . . . #Puppet #Tasmania #PuppetMakers

Keep your eyes peeled this NYE! 🌿 There'll a heap hanging around the Tasteofsummer . . . #Puppet #Tasmania #TasteOfSummer

Our greatest hits in 2023 As we approach the end of another action-packed year, our CEO and Executive Producer Belinda Kelly has reflected on the significant moments in our last eNews for 2023. Reminder: casting EOIs closing soon! We're casting a narrator for our 2024 schools tour Feathers, so if you're a Tasmanian actor we'd love to hear from you! The narrator is at the heart of the story, an avid bird-watcher who follows Feathers' journey and captivates the audience because the narrator delivers all of the dialogue for a range of distinctive characters (hint, there are lots of birds). The narrator could be anywhere between 18 to 35, any gender and any ethnicity. We've put this age range on the role due to the specific character we're casting, but will be holding general auditions for all ages in 2024. Auditions will be held in Hobart in the week commencing 4 Dec, so get your EOI in asap → https://www.terrapin.org.au/about/work-with-us/ #Puppet #Tasmania

This week in the workshop, lead puppet-maker Bryony Anderson has created an ‘owl feather template’ ahead of Feathers 2024. Bryony has been using a range of materials, primarily parts of tents, which are then dyed to be owl coloured. Nothing is wasted in the workshop! 🦉 . . . . #Puppet #Tasmania #PuppetMaking

"My favourite moment like this in the show is the ‘disco inferno’ where fire takes over the table and the whole audience starts to move as one, dancing with the fire." – Artistic Director Sam Routledge The Paper Escaper Theatre Royal, 5 – 8 October (school holidays) Burnie Arts, 11 October Earl Arts Centre Launceston, 13 – 14 October Book now: https://bit.ly/thepaperescaper 📸 Joseph Shrimpton

We know that Forever Young: Puppetry in Aged Care works - that it creates real positive change in the lives of people who experience it. We want to keep touring each year and reach older Tasmanians around the state. This EOFY, we aim to raise $10,000 to kick-start our fundraising for the 2024 tour – will you help us? Your donation will support artist fees and on-road touring costs, all while keeping the program affordable for aged care residences. Zucchini-leaf innovation: lead puppet-maker Bryony Anderson has developed a different way to dye fabric, meaning nothing is wasted or poured down the drain. Ten Days on the Island City of Hobart

With hundreds of half-decayed fruits, vegies and scraps making up Heap’s body, every gram counts for our puppeteers! Ten Days on the Island City of Hobart

Peep into the Terrapin workshop to see the makings of Heap, our giant compost creature. With our thanks to Ten Days on the Island and City of Hobart 🍃

Material lifeforms evolve and interact, perpetually combining and separating to form new beings. Developed by Terrapin’s artistic director Sam Routledge and UK artist Tim Spooner, our work in development Matter Era stages the speculative evolution of post-human life over a six-hour performance. Stay tuned for more in future. Read more about the process in our March eNews: https://bit.ly/3LIfmHW Matter Era is supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program, and by Artsadmin.
