Barking Mad Studios
Bespoke art sculptures for the garden.
Made these Blue Banded Bee earrings today. Stained glass with black petina.
Blue Banded Bees are native to many areas of Australia. They are solitary little creatures that prefer to live alone.🐝
Well covid lockdown has put a spanner🛠 in my works. Have had to postpone my workshop trip....oh well, plenty of other work to do to get ready for the launch.
My story. I hope you all like it.😊🌻💖
I am Melody Rose and work from my home studio “Barking Mad Studios”, in Chuwar,
Queensland and workshop on my family farm in Blakebrook, New South Wales, Australia. My studio name sums me up perfectly as “the neighbourhood crazy plant lady”, with the large fur family (4 Boarder Collies and 1 little old furry rugrat “Daisy”) that hang out in the studio with me.
My work is based on the natural elements that surround us. Through my use of timber, clay, metal, glass and stone I focus on creating bold textured sculptures that compliment the natural environment. This showcases my first nation's heritage and connection with the land. Born in El Paso Texas with American Indian heritage, I feel a strong connection to mother earth and to all first nation’s peoples.
After leaving school I followed a number of paths. I studied courses in design for the clothing and millinery industry, but found myself working in factories. My father, a high school teacher who taught industrial arts, but who was fine arts trained and a mother who worked as a nurse, encouraged me to find meaningful employment, so I followed a path into the health industry as a nurse and then a midwife with a passion for breastfeeding. A connection to mother earth through the care of birthing women. However, I was always drawn back to the creative side and
ventured into many things connected to the creative world through my children as they blossomed into adulthood.
After a 33 year career in the health system and the light and joy being pulled from my soul by
the demands of government and institutional barriers, I have come full circle and with the love and support of my family and friends have found myself immersed in this world of creation
again.
I hope to bring joy and connection to the earth with my sculptures that are made to live in the garden surrounded by the beauty of mother nature.

Amazing what you can do with a tree branch collected from the front yard. A little pair of earrings almost finished.
More work underway.
