FAME Trivia at The Sandbelt Hotel
Fame Trivia at The Sandbelt Club Hotel, every Tuesday night. Free entry, lots of fun, and great priz
Today is Sir Paul McCartney’s birthday, so what better reason to dust off the famous Pink Jacket for trivia at The Sandbelt and celebrate an icon?
It was a rather full house, with 99 players across 18 teams attending. Thanks to everyone who gave up their Tuesday night to join in the fun.
Congratulations to the prize winners tonight:
1st ($60 voucher) - Eugenius
2nd ($30 voucher) - The Gooners
7th ($20 voucher) - The Outsiders
2nd Last (2 x drink cards) - The Lightning Sharks
After the big $300 Jackpot was won last week, the prize was reset to the base value of $50. …which, is where it will remain for at least another week! After two questions of the Jackpot, there were four teams all sitting on two out of two and just like last week, it again came down to the final question… aaaaaand…. The Humperdinks can thank Martina Navratilova for helping them to the $50 voucher! Congrats to The ‘Dinks on their win!
Have a great week everyone and I look forward to seeing many of you next Tuesday.
Last night the FAME Trivia Club question was about the ‘Original Six’ teams in the NHL (ice-hockey) in North America. Turns out that I have jerseys for three of the teams: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhaws, and Detroit Redwings. Good to wear these again.
As for trivia last night - what excitement!
Congratulations to the Two Wise Guys who cantered home for victory, in quite a tough quiz. Second place went to The Humperdinks (even though missing their core players), and the prize for 7th went to Sliced Bread.
The $300 Jackpot went down to the wire, with four teams answering the first two of the three questions correctly: Lazarus, Eugenius, Humperdincks, and Two Wise Guys. In the end it was a tie between Lazarus and Eugenius and both teams pocketed $150 (venue vouchers) each.
…and instead of closing with my usual piece of music - ‘Frolic’ from Curb Your Enthusiasm - I played the Kangaroos theme song to celebrate their first win of the AFL season. Sadly our resident Roo fanatic, Mike, had already left the building!
Have a great week. See you all next Tuesday.
Go Hawks!
Go Bruins!
Happy 75th Birthday (sort of) to King Charles III.
As we are all trivia buffs, here are 71 fun facts about our beloved monarch:
https://amp.theguardian.com/global/2023/may/01/king-charles-from-excessively-shy-boy-to-monarch-in-waiting
Also, for those who are either too young or not history buffs, in 1966 the then young Prince Charles spent a year at Geelong Grammar. It is little known that he actually played two games for the Geelong U19s as a dashing Half-Back Flanker. The Cats wanted to recruit him, but his mum refused to sign the papers. She wanted him to play for the Pies.
Anyway, have a great day today and I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night. Handicaps tomorrow will be:
-4 BCVs
-4 What’s Doin’?
-4 Crazy Pals
-4 Bad Boy Bobby
-2 We Thought This Was Speed-Dating
Our first winter trivia night for 2024 this evening was a lot of fun! Thanks to all the teams who stepped out into the brisk night air and came to play FAME Trivia at The Sandbelt Hotel.
Congratulations to the “BCVs” on their maiden victory tonight, having been semi-regulars at trivia for about the last six months. For their efforts, the BCVs earned themselves the $60 voucher. Next time they play trivia, I’ll slug them with the 4 pt Carry-Over Champ handicap.
Well done to “The Crazy Pals” who finished second - one lousy point was all that separated them from the BCVs!The Pals started with a 2 pt handicap, which now increases to 4 pts next week.
Finally, special mention to “Sliced Bread” on earning the $20 voucher for finishing in 7th place.
The Jackpot did not go off tonight, and now creeps up to $300 next week! It will be worth tuning up next Tuesday night, to have a go at the Jackpot Round. The excitement levels will definitely go up a notch!
Tonight there was a question about “London Calling” by the Clash. ….which immediately reminded me the only trivia tidbit I know about the band. That is, their album cover was designed to pay homage to Elvis’ debut album. Check them both out below.
Have a geat week and weekend ahead..
Come down to The Sandbelt Hotel Sports Bar on Tuesday night for trivia. Toddlers are even welcome! Collingwood supporters? Mmmm …. I’m not sure about that… but toddlers - all fine!
It was another great trivia show tonight. Thanks to all who attended.
Congratulations to Eugenius on their great win, earning themselves the $60 voucher tonight. So it’ll be -4 pts for them next week.
Well done to The Humperdinks on pocketing the $30 voucher for finishing in second place! This gives them something to smile about, given that they are predominantly Richmond, St Kilda, and Geelong supporters! 😁
The Odd Bods also left smiling this evening, after the surprise of winning the $20 voucher for finishing 7th/8th.
La Triviata gave the $200 Jackpot a real crack tonight, being the only team standing, going into the final question. With two from two, the $200 was definitely within reach. Alas, their love of rock outweighed their love of tea, which made all the difference tonight. So next week the Jakpot prize creeps up $225!
An exciting evening during Tuesday’s FAME Trivia show in the Sportsbar.
The leaders at the end of Rd 1, ‘The Humperdinks’, finished the night on 62 points. ‘Lazarus’ finished on 63 points, as did “GOATs”. So we had to go to a tiebreak to separate the two deadlocked teams!
Congratulations to ‘GOATs”, whose fandom for The Brady Bunch finally paid off and earned them the First Place $60 voucher, pipping ‘Lazarus’ at the post, who took home the $30 voucher.
Well done to ‘What’s Doin’?’ who received the $20 voucher for finishing in 7th place tonight.
Good stuff to ‘Dime’ as they received the two drink cards.
The Jackpot was not won tonight and will be up to $200 next Tuesday night.
Thanks to all those who came tonight. Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday night.
What another fun night of trivia we enjoyed this evening, notwithstanding the anagram question! …speaking of which, below is a photo of the famous Einstein twins - Albert and Halbert. So maybe I was correct, after all? 😂
Congrats to our prize-winners tonight:
1st ($60 voucher): Crazy Pals
2nd ($30 voucher): Lazarus
7th ($20 voucher): The Odd Bods
Drink vouchers: The Burlingtons
Congrats to Pennyless (the team formerly known as The Silver Stars) on winning the $50 Jackpot Round tonight! 2024 certainly has been the year for Jackpot wins, so far!
Thanks for the enjoyment tonight and I look forward to doing it all again next Tuesday.
Enjoy the week between gigs!
For the second successive week the Jackpot Round was won! Tonight congratulations go to ‘Pennyless’ and ‘Bad Boy Bobby’ who both aced the Jackpot and each pocketed $25.
Congrats also to ‘The Two Wise Guys’ for winning the major prize tonight - $60 voucher for finishing first in the main quiz.
The $30 second-prize voucher went to ‘Eugenius’. Well done!
The $20 prize for 7th went to ‘Pennyless’, so they didn’t do too badly overall, tonight!
Our youngest player in the room tonight, Max from La Triviata, won four drink cards. (He started uni this year, so all is good!) If Max used them all tonight, I’m tipping that the young fellow will decide tomorrow to never drink again! 😂
Have a great week ahead, folks.
See you next Tuesday.
What a fantastic night of trivia at The Sandbelt this evening. It was not only great to be back after a few weeks away, but it was lovely to have so many people actually happy to see me! Makes for a pleasant change! 😬
Congratulations to ‘Champagne Ruby’ on their great win tonight. Good to have them back on the winner’s list! The $60 will no doubt be enjoyed next week.
Well done also to Lazarus on finishing in Second Place and winning the $30 vouncher, even despite having a 2 pt handicap this evening. Great effort.
…and the gents from The Three Amigos walked away with the $20 voucher for finishing 7th. Congrats.
The excitement extended to the Jackpot around, with both Area 51 and Eugenius answering the first two questions correctly. It was Area 51 who covered themselves in glory, by correctly answering the third and final question. So $100 goes into their kitty for spending next week. Well done!
Oh it was nice to sneak in a Tay Tay-related question tonight, even though it was about some bloke who hangs around her.

It’s been an age since I’ve seen ya!
