A B O U T T H E A R T I S T S :
Thierryno Gangou ~ T
Thierryno started the piano at the age of seven. He played in his first amateur band at eleven and was an experienced and accomplished pianist, keyboardist and singer by age eighteen. Growing up in Mauritius, his past credentials are astonishing; being personally requested by celebrities and flown on demand to play for people such as Nelson Mandela and the Princess of Brunei. Thierryno has played extensively in exclusive venues across many continents throughout his career and he is now based in Perth, performing regularly with the elite of the Perth music scene. Highlights of his Australian careers include touring with the WAMI Award winning band “Grace Barbe Afro Kreol” at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival alongside people such as Marcia Hines, Bob Dylan, Casey Chambers and Elvis Costello. Thierry is also fluent in French and Creole

Marianne (MJ) Tooley ~ M
MJ began singing professionally at 17 with a government sponsored tour of WA. She has performed across Perth and overseas in various formats such as acoustic duos, trios and bands. MJ has showcased her vocal versatility, working in jazz, pop, rock, tribute and acoustic bands. She has worked alongside Johnny Young, supported Shannon Noll, held a weekly residency at Crown Perth for over 10 years, has performed at major events at Optus Stadium and other major venues.

Jeremy Goinden ~ J
Jeremy is a 3rd year WAAPA student studying jazz performance. He has skills well beyond his young years. Descending from a family of professional musicians, he’s been immersed in music since he was a child. He has played as part of Latin band Candela, Gemma Farrels Quartet and with his father as part of Touché. He is also part of the Mauritian Kaspoz band, who had a long residency at The Windsor. Jeremy is a young drummer with huge potential.

With every ticket purchased to Jazz Club featuring Elysia Jazz Duo this Thursday evening ~ Spots are filling fast for the LAST Jazz Club of 2022!

Elysia Jazz Duo consists of Elysia Murphy on vocals and Steve Hensby on guitar and vocals. Residing in Perth, Western Australia, they play a diverse range of jazz styles including swing, bossa, bop, ballads and blues as well as their own inimitable original compositions. They include songs in French and Portuguese and both improvise in a number of songs.
Elysia brings her impressive range and impeccable pitch to her smooth and soulful vocals while the multi-talented, Berklee graduate, Steve, accompanies her on the guitar with simultaneous bass lines, comping and vocal harmonies.
Their influences include such classic artists as: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker and Joe Pass as well as more contemporary singers including Kurt Elling, Esperanza Spalding, Aretha Franklin and Melody Gardot. Elysia’s vocals have been compared to singers ranging from Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux to Amy Winehouse.
Steve and Elysia are both accomplished musicians and singers who teach in prestigious music institutions in Western Australia and perform regularly in a number of bands, playing a range of genres. Steve has been nominated by the Western Australian Music industry (WAM) as Guitarist of the Year and two of Elysia’s compositions were nominated as a WAM Song of the Year, 2019 and 2020. Steve’s jazzy take on the classic, If I Only Had A Brain was also nominated in the IMA’s (Independent Music Awards) cover category. A song of hers, written in French, also won Best Music Video at the Revelation International Film Festival 🎷🍸
