MARQUEE SIGNING ANNOUNCEMENT 🐬🐬

Mandurah City Football Club are delighted to announce that former Scotland and Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths will be joining the club.

The experienced 31 year old striker is a proven goal scorer in the Scottish Premier League and on an International level.

Born in Edinburgh, Griffiths’ senior career commenced at the age of 16 for Livingston FC. He then went on to play for Dundee, Wolverhampton Wanderers & Hibernian before signing for Celtic where he made over 200 appearances scoring over 115 goals. Throughout Leigh’s career so far, multiple awards have been won which include PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League Player of the Year & Scottish Football Writers Player of the Year.

Leigh represented Scotland at an under-19 and under-21 level and was part of the squad that reached the 2011 UEFA Under-21 Championship play-offs, narrowly losing out to Iceland. With his undoubtable talent Leigh went on to make 22 appearances for his country, scoring 4 goals including the 2 well known free kicks against England in 2017.

Mandurah Head Coach John Baird is thrilled to have completed the services of the Scotsman for the remainder of the year. Leigh is undoubtedly one of the biggest signings in not only Mandurah’s history, but one of the biggest in Australian NPL & State League football history.

These words were echoed by Mandurah City President Nigel Mann. “It sums up where the club is currently at and the hard work we have put in over the years” he said.

Leigh will play the last 2 home games of the season in the famous Black & White. Welcome to Mandurah Leigh!

A great win today for our ressie lads winning 4-3. Unfortunately it was a loss for our first team losing 5-3. Onwards and upwards for next Sundays game at home against Northern City FC

Today we are playing away at the Spanish Club of WA against Brozzy FC. Ressies at 1pm and first team at 3pm. The lads look to keep the momentum going from their win on Wednesday!

Mandurah traveled up to Bassendean today and unfortunately both teams didn't get the results they had hoped for. We play at home next Sunday 22nd, and hope to change things for the better ⚽🐬

⭐ UPDATE: no competitive game tomorrow as Swan Valley has forfeited reserves and first team fixture.
Mandurah has progressed to the next round of the cup to keep the cup run alive. We have a friendly game in Larkhill against Port Kennedy socials tomorrow with an 11am kickoff to keep the lads ticking over.

Unfortunately our home game this Easter Monday has been cancelled due to Fraser Park not been able to field teams due to Covid.

The lads have there 1st home games of the season this Easter Monday, the bar will be open.

1pm Perth hill 1 - 2 Mandurah city

The lads set of to our furthest away trip to the lofty hills of Perth with 14 players missing from the squad due to covid work etc.

A well deserved win in the early kick off for the dolphins, perth hills took a early lead from a deep cross that wasn’t dealt with.

The boys composed themselves and the midfield trio of Reuben, Dan and Mark, drove the team on with there quality in the middle of the park.

The pacy forward line caused Perth hills problems all game, a break away goal was expertly scored by the head of Shannon to make it 1-1 at half time.

A second half penalty that was won by the MOTM Dan Barker was expertly put away by fan favourite Reuben.
The lads seen out the rest of the game to start the season with a 2-1 win.

3 pm Perth hills 2 - 1 Mandurah city

Unlucky result on the road today in poor conditions. The lads controlled the game for 90 minutes and took the lead from close range with Jimmy Oldfield.
Just before half time Perth Hills equalised from a floated ball into the penalty area which was not dealt with.

Second half was more of the same with Mandurah dominating in midfield and hit the crossbar twice, while chasing the game another free kick from Perth Hills was floated into the back post which was not dealt with by the Manurah back line and went 2-1 down.

Lots of positives from the game and with a new squad this year Mandurah looked strong and look to build on from it for next Monday home game against Fraser Park.

Our lads are local this weekend as we take on Rockingham City FC at Lark Hill Sports Complex for The Liam Dixon Cup. We hope to see as many members and supporters there to cheer on the lads in the local derby. UTD 🐬🐬

Not the day we wanted but came up against tough opponents in Port Kennedy, both games had a lot of opportunities for the lads but never took our chances when it mattered, we move onto next week:

Great match between our young dolphins to start the day, both teams were fantastic with the under 13’s NPL coming out winners.
