Two things you can’t control when shooting architectural backplates; the weather and parked cars. I imagine it won’t be long until Firefly can sort the latter out with the push of a button.
In 7 years of flying drones I’ve crashed twice, the first was my brothers twitchy fpv rocket in a park because I didn’t know how to control a drone that doesn’t hover when you take your thumbs off the sticks, the second was yesterday on one of the biggest developments in Victoria in front of two clients. It’s a weird feeling watching thousands of dollars of gear get blown into 3 floors of open scaffolding and the sounds of it bouncing between steel that followed. Amazingly with the help of a few brothers and a tribute to the build quality of the Phantoms it was brought back to me almost unscathed, a couple of replaced broken props and we were back up and finishing off the shoot. Get licensed, get insured and fly with the safety of others as a priority.
Spot the drone? In the field, literally, filming some new top secret content with from Cre8 Media.
Convinced myself I needed a new monitor for the controller. The iPad mini 5 was great, did everything I needed it to except be visible during the brightest part of the day. The CrystalSky screens are not new devices but at 4x the brightness of the iPad and with the ability to record onto sd and live feed to a set of FPV googles amongst other things it should be a good investment. And through the incompetence of an off shore online sales rep for DJI I managed to get it at $600 off retail. Brand new.
Latest video for commercial solar installers Brightex. Still trying to figure out if posting a YT link is better than a direct upload to FB. Looking to have it start streaming as soon as it's scrolled over..

Google Reviews are a great way to build trust in business, if I have a great experience somewhere whether it's a cafe, restaurant or local mechanic I always leave them a good review. Likewise if the experience is awful, it's going down on paper. I've had more good than bad thankfully but I tend to always look up the reviews on a place before making an appointment or booking.
If you've used my business over the past 2 or so years for drone or photography work and you feel like leaving a review I've figured out how to share a link to the thing, and if you don't that is also ok, tia!

Promo video for one of Vandelay Construction's recent projects. A re-edited version as I wasn't 100% happy with how the original was cut.

Rain. Again.
Out filming vineyards today
Really enjoy these clever FPV fly-throughs. You’d have to be on your game to pilot a drone through a priceless Porsche museum 🔥
Plenty of hazards on job sites but this is a first for me in 12 years.
Charging up the lil chup-a-chup that got me into aerial work. Must be at least 18 months since I’ve even looked at it, not great for the batteries, but it’s bigger fatter brother has taken all of my attention recently. Pretty keen to take it for a squint and see how it goes. Such a great drone for starting out, hardly any bells or whistles to distract you just does what it says on the tin. 🔥
This AI thing thats happening has come up in conversation a lot recently. There's no escaping it and the digital creators landscape is transforming rapidly in front of us. I don't know whether to be excited or terrified, probably somewhere in the middle with a dash of curiosity. It is already starting to be used to great effect in the architecture industry, more to follow on that, and now, surprisingly to me anyway - Adobe has released (or is about to) some new tools within Lightroom and Photoshop using their own form or text to image technology. The Font and Brush tools could be really handy in my own workflow.
Game changer: Adobe gets into AI with Firefly, its own image-to-text generator Adobe Firefly is a new AI tool that integrates with Photoshop and Lightroom, enabling you to generate images and text
Collingwood Town Hall. Isn’t she beautiful. I can’t find much info but it looks like she’s from around the 1880’s. A short clip taken while on another assignment on the beloved (jokes) Hoddle St/Punt Rd.
Yes a re-post from yesterday. Still working out the best way to share video on these platforms and I think the vertical edits are the way to go. Not great as it cuts so much of my frame out but seems to work with this shot. Thanks for watching.

An older project I was part of recording the installation of 164sqm of mosaic tiles into eight low walls around the landscaped gardens in Shields Street over 12 months, as part of Cairns Regional Council’s Shields Street Heart re-development. An iconic translation of six domestic sized paintings from three local Indigenous artists from Yarrambah - Philomena Yeatman, Edna Ambrym and Valmai Pollard.
Contractor: Don MacDonald of The Orchid Group in collaboration with Symmetry Mosaics (Noosa) and Keith Murphy of Artistic Solutions Group (Melbourne)
An epic job involving multiple trips to North Queensland, tropical thunderstorms, thousands of green ants and bats, crazy temperatures and humidity, very early starts and very long days.
Very keen to see the condition of these walls 8 years on.
Hello 👋🏼 I’ve set up a work page for the LinkedIn users, hopefully the link below works and we can all get on with our day with smiles on our faces.
My apprentice keeps an eye on our gear when I dissappear around big sites.
Photographing roof structure details from the Phantom’s perspective.
We monitor a few apps before flying for weather and location restrictions. It was really windy this morning but the Phantom holds up well in strong wind, especially in tripod mode which we use a lot for aerial photography. The only time we won’t fly is when it’s wet or super hot, heat saps the batteries faster than normal and I’m sure it’s not good for the internals either.
Really windy this morning but we’ve got work to do.
Very quiet on site today. Was 30 degrees at 8am and I would not want to be roofing either. Think it peaked at 39 this afternoon. Early knock off for most trades. Have a great weekend!
An odd little display on the inside fence of a large construction site this morning 🤷♂️
No need for ladders when you’ve got a lifted 4x4 with an open tub to maintain or visual line of sight, critical for safe UAV operations on every site.
