Stephen Kells from Melbourne Amiga User Group (MAUG) brought in this classic Commodore Amiga A1200 for recap. On the surface it's a nice example however under the microscope it's a different story. Capacitor leakage happens on all equipment of this vintage, it may not show during operation but eventually it will do damage. It tarnishes the solder making it difficult to remove components and eats away at the copper. Leaking electrolytes also affect circuit operation due to current flowing incorrectly. Using the proper techniques, leaking caps are carefully removed and corrosion affected areas treated as required. A wash in the ultrasonic cleaner ensures those contaminants are flushed out and new polymer caps mean no more leakage. Looking forward to hearing some crank'n 8-bit tracks from this one Stephen😎

An epic week of work finished! Wildlife Surrounds is researching and educating people in Australian wildlife with our under-appreciated native canine (the Dingo) as it's centrepiece. Business owner, Shakira Todd, operates from a completely off-grid repurposed shipping container in the tranquil forest settings of Mount Surround, 40 minutes out of Townsville. A solar array and lithium batteries powers this site but we needed to expand on that. One hundred metres of cable was laid to to extend power to the enclosures and 300 metres of CAT6 data cable for cameras to monitor the animals activities. Due to the unique requirements of this camera install we also utilised ethernet-coax adaptors to achieve distances not possible with regular data cable. There was blood, sweat, tears and mozzie bites but heading out to a nearby hidden paradise for a swim at the end was well worth the effort!

It’s easy to throw out old appliances and replace them with cheap new ones. But sometimes there could be trade offs, lesser quality and/or performance, or doesn’t fit the old space properly.

This Italian built range hood got itself a new lease on life. With the controls all cleaned up in an ultrasonic bath and a solid new motor installed this one’s all good to go. Budget brand’s come and go and are often not serviceable but it’s great to help customers keep the things they love going…. and keep a little bit waste out of the landfill👌
