🌸 Understanding Breast Cancer Early Signs and the Triple Test Approach πŸŽ—οΈ

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month let's dive into the critical information you need to identify the early signs and understand the diagnostic process. Recognising symptoms early can be a game-changer.

Know the signs, unveil the mysteries of breast cancer by learning about the early warning signals. From subtle changes to noticeable differences, awareness is our best defence.

The Triple Test Approach - is a comprehensive method that looks at firstly, medical history and a clinical examination, second, imaging and if needed, third, is a biopsy (non-excisional). By understanding this approach, we empower ourselves in the fight against breast cancer.

A triple test is more accurate at detecting breast cancer than any of those individual tests alone and, when performed appropriately, it will detect over 99.6% of breast cancers.

Spread the word and share the knowledge!

Early detection is a powerful tool in saving lives. If you notice any changes or have concerns, consult with your GP promptly. https://qualitashealth.com.au/our-practices/keilor-medical-clinic/

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Did you know? 1 in 2 Australian adults will struggle with mental health at some point in their lives. A sobering statistic is that su***de was the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 49 in 2019. 3,000 Australians end their lives each year.

Good mental health is more than just the absence of mental illness. It means you are in a state of well-being where you feel good and function well in the world.

According to the WHO, good mental health is when you can:
β€’ cope with the everyday stresses of life
β€’ learn and work productively
β€’ use your talents and abilities
β€’ contribute to the community

Research supports five types of actions strongly linked to good mental health. Mindspot refers to these as "the Big Five", and their research has shown that the more often you do these actions, the better your mental health may be.

The Big Five self-assessment can help us be more mindful and aware of how often we're including these activities in our routines. It also contains suggestions on how to do these activities more frequently.

Are you looking for more support?

We recommend you consult with your GP, who can discuss local support or treatment options with you. They may also suggest a Mental Health Care Plan, which can help you access treatment services with a psychologist or psychiatrist with greater support. GPs can also provide a physical check-up if you have not had one recently. Your physical health can affect your emotional well-being.

Book online and talk to your GP TODAY: https://qualitashealth.com.au/our-practices/keilor-medical-clinic/

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we want to empower you with knowledge. Watch our latest video for eye-opening statistics and insights.

Remember, knowledge is power. If you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to talk to your GP. Your health matters and early action can make all the difference.

πŸ”₯ Stay Safe, Stay Prepared! πŸ”₯

As bushfire season approaches, your health is our top priority. Here are some tips to keep you and your loved ones protected:

Assess Your Risk: Understand your level of bushfire risk. It's not just about the season; bushfires or back-burning can catch you off guard. Stay prepared year-round with a bushfire survival plan!

Health Conditions Matter: Certain conditions put you at higher risk during bushfires. If you have asthma, lung issues, heart conditions, diabetes, or if you're pregnant or elderly, take extra precautions.

Respect the Smoke: Smoke can be hazardous. If you smell or see smoke, limit outdoor activities, and stay indoors if safe to do so. If you experience breathing difficulties, seek medical help immediately.

Update Your Action Plan: Consult your GP or treating doctor. Ensure your asthma, COPD, heart disease, or diabetes management plan is up to date. Ensure you have an adequate supply of necessary medications and/or inhalers.

Look Out for the Elderly: Check on elderly family, friends, or neighbours. Make sure they have a plan in place.

Mind Your Mental Health: Don't forget your mental well-being. If you have concerns, consult your GP.

Let's stay prepared and protect ourselves and each other during this bushfire season by putting the right health and safety plans in place. Need to update your health plans? Find a Qualitas Medical Practice near you at https://qualitashealth.com.au/. If you need to update your bushfire survival plan, visit: https://www.myfireplan.com.au./

Prioritise Women's Health, Visit a GP Regularly

As we have reached the end of Women's Health Week, we wanted to keep our punchline simple - prioritise your Women's health needs. It's important to remember that to look and feel well, a regular and ongoing relationship with a good GP is the best way to achieve optimal health.

Alarmingly, statistics from the National Health Survey (ABS, 2022) show that 56% of Australian women aged 18+ have one or more chronic health conditions, which accounts for over half of the women who are workers, mothers and carers in Australia.

Consulting a GP regarding changes or concerns about your overall health could save your life. Your GP can provide:

β€’ Personalised care plans
β€’ Early detection of medical concerns
β€’ Managing chronic conditions
β€’ Emotional support
β€’ Family planning
β€’ Holistic Healthcare
β€’ Specialist referrals

Take the reins of your health journey today! Schedule an appointment with one of Keilor Medical Clinic's compassionate GPs to embrace a brighter, healthier future. Your wellness is worth every step!

Take Control of Your Asthma!

Asthma affects nearly 2.7 million Aussies, and it's crucial to understand its symptoms and management. An asthma flare-up can feel like breathing through a straw, and it can be life-threatening. In 2020, there were 417 asthma-related deaths – which statistically, is far too high considering the availability of medically approved preventative measures.

Do you experience coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, or nighttime awakenings due to asthma symptoms? If so, your asthma may not be under control.

Make sure you have an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan developed with your GP and shared with your family and support network.

πŸ” Regular check-ins are essential:
Adults: Every 12 months
Children: Every 6 months
Pregnant women: As soon as you find out you're pregnant

Allergic rhinitis (hayfever) often accompanies asthma. Both conditions must be managed together for optimal control.

Beware of thunderstorm asthma if you have hayfever and ryegrass allergies. Inhaling pollen during storms can trigger severe attacks even in non-asthmatics.

Consult your GP for the right medications, including preventer inhalers and corticosteroid nasal sprays.

Don't smoke, create a Hayfever Action Plan, and carry your reliever inhaler during spring/summer.

Stay informed about weather forecasts and pollen counts.

Your health matters and managing asthma can improve your quality of life. Reach out to your GP today to create a personalised plan.

Let's breathe easier and live better together! πŸ’ͺ Read more on our website: https://qualitashealth.com.au/asthma-preparing-an-asthma-action-plan/

πŸ“£ IMPORTANT MENTAL HEALTH ALERT! πŸ“£

1 in 5 people in Australia experience mental health challenges in any given year. You or someone you know may, at some time, require access to urgent mental health treatment and may put it off because your current health insurance coverage doesn't include it. For this reason, we want to raise awareness of an important Federal policy that could save lives.

The Department of Health's 'Waiting periods and exemptions' policy details that you can upgrade your hospital cover for psychiatric care without further waiting. That's right! If you or someone you know needs help, you can take advantage of this exemption if you have completed a 2-month waiting period for limited psychiatric benefits.

Many patients, even healthcare providers may not be familiar with this policy which has motivated us to share this message. Patients are encouraged to contact their health insurer for further information on the policy but should still visit their GP to initiate their mental health care.

It's crucial to remember that mental health disorders are common and can affect anyone, regardless of their perceived risk. By destigmatising hospital treatment as an option, we can ensure that individuals receive the care they deserve without delay.

At Qualitas Health, we believe your mental well-being should never be compromised due to waiting periods or financial constraints. Please take advantage of this policy to ensure you receive the care you need when you need it. We're here to support your health every step of the way.

You can find more information at: https://qualitashealth.com.au/important-information-about-mental-health-waiting-periods-and-exemptions/
