We have had an action packed week here at Ferntree Gully. One of the highlights was the visit from the ambulance and the educational team.
What a wonderful treat for our bush kinders this week. The children from classroom 3 delivered their lunch to them. After lunch they enjoyed a play in the puddles and playground before saying goodbye to classroom 3 as they returned to the centre.

We incorporate Indigenous culture into our classrooms daily through dreamtime stories, and music including singing our Acknowledgement of Country during our group times.
During NAIDOC week recently in classroom 2, we were reading about Bunjil the Eagle.
Using recycled materials the children participated in creating our very own Bunjil the Eagle as a group experience. The children also explored paint with using different tools including their hands.
Bunjil is proudly displayed in our classroom.
For every new child we enrol in July and August, $50 will be donated to the Mamakai Foundation to support children who have experienced domestic violence.
The Mamakai Foundation (mama: woman, kai: warrior) was established to fund charities to extend and deepen their support for children who have been victims of domestic violence.
Join us in making a difference and supporting a brighter future for these children. By enrolling your child with us, you are not only securing quality care but also contributing to a meaningful cause. Reach out or visit our website to enquire or book a tour 🙌
We celebrated National Pyjama Day all week here at Ferntree Gully. Thanks to all of our Nido Community for participating and helping to raise $140.00 for Foster Kids
Today we had a visit from the local Police station.
The children were able to explore the car where some children commented “we got to sit in the boot”. They also asked the officers lots of questions about their jobs.
Included in the visit was a member of the PSO’s that the children would have seen at the train stations. They discussed about what work he does when on the trains. The officers took the time to explain that they don't just catch the bad guys, and that they do lots of things to keep us safe.
Thank you for spending time with us today, letting us wear you hats and for the stickers and goodies too.
Thank you to those families that braved the cold and joined us for our Kindergarten info session this evening. For those that couldn’t make it and would like know more, give us a call at the centre and we can have a chat and book in a tour.

We have had a busy couple of weeks here at Ferntree Gully. We participated in the simultaneous storytime session reading along to the book Bowerbird Blues. We joined in with experiences for Reconciliation Week, went on nature excursions searching for and identifying different birds, had a few trips to the park and walks out in the community.
Over the past 6 months, we have built up strong friendships with some of the residents from Glengollan Village.
Starting off with fortnightly visits to our service, a small group of residents participated in morning tea and fun indoor and outdoor experiences with the children. We had our first visit to their village last week and had a lovely time with our friends reading stories, telling tales and joining in a sing-a-long session.
We are looking forward to many more adventures ahead.
Getting ready for our first Mother’s Day event this afternoon.
Special thanks to the RSPCA op shop in Ferntree Gully for allowing us to visit this week. The children went to purchase photo frames to display their artwork and found lots of other bargains too!
Today we participated in Clean up Australia. Our children from Classrooms 3,4 and 5 put on their special gloves and went outside to clean up our carpark and the grassy area next to the service
A big Thankyou to the team from nDenticare who visited yesterday and spent time teaching the children about oral care before conducting checkups in their mobile dental clinic
It was a great experience for as all
Nido Ferntree Gully kicked off our focus on healthy eating and sustainability this week. Classroom 3 have created a worm farm out of materials found around the service. They are cutting their own fruit and putting the peels ad scraps into the worm farm. Left-over drinking water is being used to water the gardens. Classroom 2 have created a recycling station.
The move from toddlers to 3Yr old kinder is a big one for the children. Suddenly they are in this new environment with different routines, play spaces, expectations and less educators as per ratio. That is a lot for little ones to navigate and it can take some time for them to find their "place" and emotions are quite often huge during this time.
Our teachers are supporting the children by spending time discussing their feelings, reading stories together around emotions and setting up play spaces that encourage small group interactions and conversations.
We are already noticing new friendships forming and confidence growing within the group.
Welcoming the Year of the Dragon with joy and prosperity! 🐉
Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Lunar/Chinese New Year filled with good fortune and happiness. 恭喜发财! 🎉🧧
Today our Kinder 4's had a visit from Anna and her black lab Bonnie from the Living Safely with Dogs Program. Anna discussed with the children about how to tell when it is safe to approach dogs and how to go about doing it.
A great show. The book has always been popular

Our 4yo Kinder group have commenced their first inquiry based project for the year. Our yards are hosts to a variety of insect which the children have been observing and interacting with. Using the book on insects as a tool they are researching on the habitats and lifecycles of insects within the local area. They are currently brainstorming as a group about the further questions they have that they can add to the project.
Things are pretty Beachy in Classroom 3!
During the recent holiday period, quite a few of our families spent time at the beach. This has been a great topic of excited conversation amongst the group and the children have enjoyed sharing stories and bringing in things they had collected.
We have extended on this clear interest they have shown us by creating a beach and underwater exploration project. Some of the experiences so far have included, researching sea life and putting together a display in our reflective nook, exploring sensory foam to simulate the seawater, reading the rainbow fish story and decorating origami fish.
Dear Nido Early School Families, as we embrace the festive spirit, a quick reminder our schools will be closed on the public holidays, allowing our wonderful educators and the rest of the team to enjoy quality time with their families.
Thanks to the team from Ferntree Gully CFA who visited us today. The children were able to explore the truck and work the hoses.
We look forward to further sessions in 2024 to learn more about fire safety.
