With women's rights in Afghanistan restricted to the point where they have no access to basic freedoms like education, sport and safety, Yousofi's use of the world sporting stage to call attention to this horrific oppression is monumental. So after retiring with 11 medals (yep, 11) and two gorgeous bubbas, she’s championing mum athletes by making the Olympics more parent-friendly. Her first move? Opening a nursery at the Olympic Village so athletes can spend time with their children in a stress-free environment.

As she says, “It is something athletes can take advantage of, but it also begins to shift the culture and hopefully show that if you do choose to have a family while you’re competing, the support will be there.” Go Allyson! 👏👏
