We wanted to share some good news... our local community being very generous, even when cost of living pressures are high.
On the first Friday of every month, our club members volunteer to hold a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Scoresby raising funds for the community - we donate proceeds to different local causes each month...
In August we raised funds for Hope For A Suitcase for Foster children. They provide children and teens in foster care with a suitcase and the essentials they need to make their transition to the foster care system just a little easier.
We had Bunnings customers provide $10 donations, on top of buying a $3.50 sausage. When our eftpos terminal was down during the August sizzle, we had people step up and pay for others who wanted a sausage but didn't have cash on them. How generous is our local community of Knox?!

At our September club meeting, we had a special guest speaker Dennis from a local charity - Biala Ringwood - who provide respite care for families with kids with additional needs.

We are proud to say we made a donation of $1000 to Biala Ringwood.
This is a Ringwood Uniting Church outreach program to reduce the risk of social isolation established in 1981 - Biala Ringwood has helped 1200+ families over 40 years.
With care on Thursdays, kids with additional needs come to Biala which provides respite for the parents but also socialisation for children that's not available with in-home care.
Biala Ringwood's program is designed for children with special needs aged 0-6, this might be kids with muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy or on the autism spectrum.
Parents and carers appreciate the break for a few hours without their kids.
Biala Ringwood has about ten kids a day and fifteen volunteers a day, so there's at least a ratio of one carer per child. This is a volunteer run charity with just one paid part-time qualified educator.
If you know a retired teacher or someone good with kids with special needs who can volunteer once a week, please mention Biala to them.

We've been supporting the free children's book charity... 123Read2Me!
In one week we picked up 578 used books, that brings our total to 2788 books so far. We've been collected used donated books from Savers op shop and we received 300 books from Adelaide. Thank you Chris and Graeme for your work collecting the books. We have delivered books to 123Read2Me for sorting and we also handed out free books at Bunnings Scoresby Father's Day sausage sizzle.

Thank you Knox City Council!

Recently the Lions Club of Knox approached Knox City Council about the possibility of a grant for our service club to purchase a new laptop and printer for our Club Secretary. The equipment will allow our secretary to complete the administration and compliance tasks required with reliable equipment that can also be cascaded to future secretaries in the years to come.

The Council was absolutely amazing and guided us through the process. It’s onwards and upwards now – Thank you so much Knox City Council we are so grateful for your support. 🧡

We love the project 123Read2Me growing kids' literacy around Australia. 123Read2Me is a Free Children's Book Charity who gives free, unwanted and donated books to Aussie kids from low socioeconomic situations who need them.

🧡Our Lions Club of Knox collected and delivered 250 books to Melinda and team to be distributed to kids who need access to books.

We believe in the power of reading to make a difference in the lives of children.
Recycling and passing along used books is good for the kids, the schools, the parents and the environment! It's a win-win all round!

This Friday 4 August our Lions Club of Knox will be running our monthly Bunnings Barbie to raise funds for good causes - come down to Bunnings Scoresby for a bite and a chat!

No plans this weekend? Come out and support your local Lions 'barbie' all for a good cause! 🦁💙💗

Our Lions Clubs will be out in their communities for National Tree Day planting trees and cooking up tasty sausage sizzles, with proceeds going back into local community projects.

Spend the weekend enjoying a snag, supporting your community, (and you might still have time to catch a movie). Have a great weekend everyone! 👋🌳☀️

Teamwork makes the dreamwork!!🧡

This week our members of the Lions Club of Knox came together to help our recycling champion sort through and box 3,900 glasses. These spectacles will provide sight for 3,900 people in need.

Spectacles get collected from local optical shops. They are then sorted and boxed before being posted to Lions Recycle for Sight. From there, they are distributed to developing countries. 🧡

Appreciation of our December donation.... we wanted to share the joy of Lions serving the local community 🧡
We donated $1000 to a local charity Knox Infolink Inc!
On behalf of the Lions Club of Knox, Carole accepted this Certificate of Appreciation from Knox Infolink last week.
In addition to the funds we raised, our Lions Club also passed on some children's toys for a Christmas delight to some children in need.
The funds and toys spread joy last Christmas as part of Knox Infolink's "Knox Community Christmas Support 2022" program.

Thank you all for coming on Saturday night - what a night of fun and laughter for a good cause. We hope you enjoyed the entertaining trivia hosting by Mick from QuizzaMe Australia!

Thank you for your generosity towards supporting refugees of disasters through the event's proceeds of $2000+ which we will give to LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation). 4 March is Lions Awareness Day. Service organisations like ours are so important to the community. Join our Lions Clubs of Knox to serve the community. Because we care!
“As climate induced disasters continue to devastate communities, we need volunteers now more than ever.”

“Lions Awareness Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible difference our volunteers make and give people an opportunity to learn more about our organisation,” says Lions Australia’s CEO Rob Oerlemans.

“It’s been a big couple of years for our members with some of the worst flooding in our country’s history. We know the road to recovery is a long one after a disaster. Our volunteers are still going above and beyond to help communities rebuild after the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020 and we will see the same with flood affected communities,” says Rob Oerlemans.

“If you are interested in making a difference ask your local Lions how you can get involved. We know there are many people out there looking to make a difference in the community right now, and it’s a great time to join us,” says Rob Oerlemans.

“Whatever your interest and passion, Lions can help you make a difference,” adds Rob Oerlemans.

Over $50 million is donated to Lions Australia each year with all funds going directly to important causes and people in need. Over $5 million is invested in youth programs each year, over $20 million is invested in medical research, $5 million in drug awareness, $20 million in hearing services and over 3000 environmental projects are carried out by Lions Australia every year.
