Well another year has passed. 4 years have gone by since my AVM tried to kill me. Stay strong and be positive if you are fighting this terrible fight. Sending you strength and healing.

3 years today that my brain exploded. Still going strong 💪 🤯

Wow sometimes it’s hard to believe that this was Sam in May 2020 when he had his AVM rupture. We were told he wouldn’t survive and if he did he would be a vegetable. So thankful and happy to see Sam now nearly 2 years later happy , healthy and strong as he continues to do rehabilitation every week and be an inspiration for others. ❤️

Well we got the news today that Sams MRI was all clear.
The best news ever !!
The AVM is completely gone and there are no signs of regrowth yay !!!
Sam can now go for his license again and I have no doubts he will get it.
Now it’s time to celebrate and start to get his independence back again. ❤️

Wow Sam has come a long way since coming home ❤️

Great walk today at Lysterfield Lake.

Today is the day Sam goes for his MRI. He has been waiting for this day for a long time.
It will show whether the AVM is all gone after his brain surgery and rule out any recurrence .
Unfortunately we won’t get the results for another month.
Keeping everything crossed that it’s good news 😊

Wouldn’t be able to tell 👌💪

Well today is 12 months since Sam’s AVM brain injury, and what a roller coaster of emotions it has been. Given what Sam had been through with the bleed on his brain, cardiac arrest, the 3hr time difference from when he collapsed to having his first lifesaving surgery, his second surgery to remove the AVM with in 48hrs and the following 5 months in hospital, this is a day of celebration of survival & what he has achieved and continues to achieve through his rehabilitation. Even though all the credit goes to the neuro surgeons at Clayton Monash Hospital and Victoria Ambulance paramedics both of which their actions saved Sam’s life, most people in the medical profession have commented he shouldn’t be with us today, it really is nothing short of a miracle.

We feel so lucky we couldn’t have imagined we would be where we are today with his recovery. All his therapists mention how well he is responding to therapies. Sam is a remarkable person who has had the ability to maintain a positive attitude throughout the past year, and it’s this positivity that has got him and the rest of us through, We couldn’t be more proud you Sam.

While Sam remains to face the daily challenges of fatigue and balance and left-hand side co-ordination, he can move around the house on his own. He still needs his wheelchair for long distances he also still needs to remain on medication to control his nausea. Simple tasks we take for granted like walking and showering are Sam’s everyday challenges.

The next major goal for Sam is an MRI and a follow up his surgeon in September. We are hopeful he will then be able take the driving test and given the all clear to drive by the end of the year. This will be big and give him more independence.

As I keep mentioning, we can’t thank every enough for your ongoing emotional support and well wishes, it is everyone’s support that feeds the positivity continues to help us through.

We love you so much Sam and are unbelievably proud of you ❤️

Haven’t done a post in a while so this will amaze everyone!
This is Sam with a physio. He has been doing a 5 day intensive physio program. It has been helping him immensely with his walking gait.
Sam is working so hard to recover and amazes us every day with his determination and progress. He is exhausted after these sessions. He can now walk around our local park without stopping to rest.
He will receive his new carbon fibre wheelchair soon that he will continue to use ongoing as his fatigue stops him from going any great distances.
Sam looks forward every day and doesn’t focus on what has happened to him. He is very positive and appreciates all the support from everyone.

Well Happy New Year everyone. It’s been a hell of a ride to get here. Here is a video of Sam a couple of weeks ago doing some walking in the house. He is getting better and stronger every day. Still has balance issues and walks with someone by his side but seems to be getting on top of his dizziness and nausea issues which is great. We even went to the park yesterday and walked for about 100mtrs with a few rests on the way. The new year will bring lots of possibilities and more gains we are sure. Will keep everyone updated regularly on Sams progress and achievements in his recovery. Thanks everybody for your continued support and love ❤️
Much love to everyone # # #

Here’s Sam doing some stepping therapy with the rehab physios. He is getting better and better with his mobility. Lots of hard work is paying off. 💪😊

12/11/2020

My recumbent bike arrived this week so now I can peddle for exercise as well. I do so much rehab for my physio including - arm weights , free walking and walking with the frame , standing and stepping exercises. Push ups , balance exercises and core strengthening excercises. It is all helping and my physio says I am making great gains and improving every week. 💪

Sam is doing amazing things in his recovery. We just need everyone to encourage him and share this page for more support. ❤️

I have been home now for nearly 4 weeks. I’m doing really well and still doing lots of rehabilitation. I have physical therapy , speech therapy and Ocupational therapy. It is really good being home again , especially now that the weather is getting warmer. I go for walks in my wheelchair around the local lake with mum and dad and sometimes with my carer. I have been practising lots of exercises to help me walk again. I can walk with a frame but still have to get my balance back. I can walk with someone holding my hand to make sure I don’t overbalance but not very far. I get tired really easy and can’t wait until I can do more and not have the stroke fatigue happen all the time. Hopefully with all the work I am doing I’ll be able to get better and better. Here is a video of me walking. Thanks to everyone for your support. 👍
