Old Melburnians 2024 Gala Night OCTOBER 5th | We’re very excited to announce that our End of Season Gala Night has been locked in! 4 hours of drinks, a 2 course sit-down meal and...
👏 15 POINT WEEKEND! For the first time this year, we’ve recorded a win in all 5 grades across the weekend! What a way to end the season!
In the Metro 1’s, a 2-0 win was needed to crack into the top 4 and the boys duly delivered with a 3-0 victory. Goals to both Joe’s, Sitch and Irvine and one to Gabe Tamborini meant the 3 points stayed firmly at Menzies.
In the Metro 4’s, Eddie Toara scored a brilliant goal to make sure the theme of the day stayed in tact - a brilliant result for the Metro 4’s who enjoyed some solid results at patches through the year.
The Metro 8’s copped a forfeit from Seaford meaning that the inaugural ‘Sunday All Stars Super Cup’ was played to the rapturous applause of the Menzies faithful. The much anticipated matchup of the Red Team vs Blue Team took place with the Red Team triumphing 6-4 in an epic goalfest. Red Rocket Fraser Daniels added his 8th goal of his weekend rivalling efforts not seen since Romario claiming training goals in his official stats. On the other side of the team sheet, Blue Team’s keeper come striker Nathan Slowey added a brace showing he can do it at both ends of the pitch. 🃏Joker Patrick Maloney added 2 to his tally for the day, but I’m told this is less about his comedic efforts and more to do with being the wildcard player helping both teams.
All focus now shifts to the State League team’s last game of the year this Saturday as well as our Club Gala Night on the 5th of October where we look forward to celebrating all of the highs and wins from season 2024!

*CLUB RESULTS - Sat 20th & Sun 21st July 2024*
The club secured 11 out of the 15 points on offer across all grades on what was a successful weekend out for Old Melburnians.
In the early Sunday game, The Metro 4’s went into the half-time break 1-0 up thanks to Gabriel Novillo’s deft touch from a dangerous ball crossed into the box and possibly one of the best celebrations we’ve seen all year 🕺💃 Unfortunately, a second half goal to Baxter prevented the win, with the score locked at 1-1 at the end of the 90. The Metro 4’s are now in outright 4th, 1 point off 3rd and 3 points clear of 5th.
The Metro 1’s survived a second-half scare to run out eventual 5-3 winners in their Round 13 clash vs South Yarra. Going into the half at 4-0 up thanks to a Conor Flanagan brace and goals to Joe Sitch and Adrian Haughey. Game done, right? Wrong. By the 50th minute, South Yarra had clawed back 3 goals on a dreary Menzies deck. Adrian Haughey put the game to bed moments later though with a spectacular scissor kick to make sure the 3 points were locked away. The Metro 1’s sit 5th on the ladder, 2 points back from 3rd spot.
In the Metro 4’s Graham Boyd’s men went 1-0 down early on, but responded magnificently with two goals shortly after. The first being a 25 yard screamer scored by Pat Moloney and then, running onto a crafty through ball by Phil Aherne, Jessie Vienet slotted away to make the score 2-1. An indirect free-kick on the 6 yard line to OMs was poked home by Ben Anderson after a scrap in the box to continue his rich-vein of goalscoring form. It wasn’t enough however on a well-used Menzies pitch to stop 2 more Endeavour goals with the game finishing 3-3.
6 POINT SATURDAY!
Vs
Seniors 1-0
Reserves 4-0
ROUND 16 | A huge contest awaits the club this Saturday at home with the visit of 3rd placed East Kew. One point separates OM and East Kew after 15 games played with the automatic promotion place still up for grabs. East Kew come off the back of a surprise 1-0 defeat at the hands of St Kevin’s last week and a 2-0 loss to Trinity the week before being their only losses this season.
It finished 3-1 to East Kew in the away leg and OMs are keen to avenge that Seniors result at The Bob come Saturday afternoon.
In the Ressies, Lachy Miles’ men will be keen to spoil the league leader’s party with a win set to change the course of the league title.
Both enthralling contests and is set to be a hard-fought afternoon in both grades.

WEEKEND RESULTS
The Metro 1’s knock off the league leaders, Brighton and hand the undefeated side their first loss of the year. First half goals to Adrian Haughey, Jack Sherwill and Janis Lusins enough to keep the fast-finishing home side at bay in a 3-2 win.
The Metro 4’s experienced a small blip on their 2024 campaign going down to Beaumaris away from home. Both sides went into half time locked at 1-1 thanks to a Eddie Toara strike. A total of 7 yellows were brandished in the affair (5 for OM) with the physical battle going the home team’s way. The 2-1 loss though still has the team in 3rd position with only two points separating 3rd and 5th.
In the thirds/Metro 8’s, the 2024 season is still mathematically alive with their gritty 4-3 win keeping them in touch with the chasing play-off pack. Goals to Gabe Gray, Pat Moloney and Nathan Slowey (the man can do it all) securing the 3 points vs Lyndale United.
State League wise (current standings are shown first), the Seniors got the job done 2-0 thanks to goals from Luke Hilton and Jake Stuart while Nehal Shetty’s thunder bastard wasn’t enough to prevent the Reserves going down 3-1. The Seniors now with arguably the biggest game of the last two season’s ahead of them this Saturday vs East Kew.
As a club, it would be amazing to see as many of you down there on Saturday to support the boys and get behind their promotion chase. It promises to be a brilliant day of football!

GAME DAY!
Another game at Menzies with another opposition coming off the back of a set of solid results. Trinity arrive at The Bob on the back of a huge 2-0 win vs East Kew last week and will be another tricky visiting opponent.
Some important ins for the Seniors this week with Alejandro Voysest back from suspension and Calvin Castagnet from injury to help bolster the playing stocks and give Danny Innes plenty to choose from when shuffling the pack. The 2-2 result earlier in the season against Old Trinity certainly wanting to be improved on.
In the Ressies, Coach Miles will be hoping to get the 3 points over a side that’s been a rival over the past few encounters with a 3-2 loss away from home looking to be avenged!
A fascinating encounter at Menzies today. Get down and support the lads!

⚽️ State League 5 East ROUND 13
🆚 Glen Waverley
📍 Sir Robert Menzies Reserve
🕐 1pm Reserves | 3pm Seniors
OLD ENEMY TERRITORY | A tale as Old as time, Old foes Old Kevin’s come to Old Melburnians for an Old Rivalry set to settle some Old scores.
Big Kev comes to Menzies on the back of getting whipped by the Stallions, not keeping up with the horsepower in a 3-1 away loss while OMs got the chocolates in a hard-fought affair against Glen Waverley in another 1-0 win.
Both teams carry decent league form into this fixture. OMs now sit 3rd - a game off the automatic promotion spots while St. Kevin’s have catapulted themselves into 7th after their run of results.
In squad news, El Diablo is out through a yellow card accumulation while club enforcer Tom Hall returns to bolster the playing stocks from the same infringement. David Campbell will look to build on his recent strong run of form while Nathan Slowey looks to take out shares in with his recent hattrick of clean Egyptian Cotton sheets. Speaking of Egyptians, we also welcome back Mohamed Mokhtar back into the squad for the Round 14 fixture.
In the Reserves, Mike ‘Honeymoon’ Tetulics returns to a squad looking to break a 3 game winless streak. Fraser Daniels will be keen to enter the double digit goal scoring tally (being the league’s fourth highest) and help get the club get back on the winner’s list. Nick ‘Rock of Gibraltar 🇬🇮’ Dossor will also look to cover the unavailable, and star of last week’s team sheet tile, Dean Jarvis.
Another captivating encounter at Menzies! Get yourself out there and support the lads in a huge match against the old foes.
DO YOU BELIEVE!?

ONE AND DONE | The seniors get the 3 points today as their march continues thanks to the solitary goal coming from Alejandro Voysest. A looping header from El Diablo enough to claim the points at Menzies after a battle in the bog. A somewhat different lineup to previous weeks, the lads pushed through in tough conditions to make sure their promotion hopes stay alive.
