In situ photos of my ‘Kenyan Time’ artworks.
These paintings were created over time, each day painting a few more layers of paint. Before each layer of paint I would reflect on a past day or activity. I would consider how I had felt, what colours I could use to communicate the emotions I had felt. I would meditate on memories of the landscape and tune into the outlines that were strong in my mind.
Each layer channels into a different memory. Whether it be memories from my morning watching the sunrise over Mt Kenya, or my fascination with Candelabra trees dotting the horizon on hot dry afternoons.
A recent two panel artwork created whilst I’m an artist in resident
In this piece I tried to blend the visions that I would get of the landscape over different periods of time including painting en plein air and reflecting on photos and videos I have taken here.
I have also tried using a more monochrome palette but couldn’t help but add a little colour!

New artwork created as an artist in resident at :
In this peace I tried to blend the visions that I would get of the landscape over different periods of time.
You can consider it a time lapse of sorts, a reflection of what the mind retains when watching one particular scenery varying throughout the day affected by cloud cover, sun and shadows.
I was unsure whether to add stitching but then experimenting I found it nicely blended the different moments and the process of sewing provided a sense of calmness which I find quite meditative.

Enjoying the time to be creative with new ideas, dwelling on them and deciding on which ones to keep whilst I’m an artist in resident at .
This artwork captures the drive to Olepangi Farm and my awe at the landscape surrounding me. It was late in the day so the golden colours were developing. I was struck by dynamic textures in the vegetation which I have been experimenting with paint instead of hand embroidery.

I have been an artist in resident at for a week now.
The farm is situated at the foothills of Mt Kenya and surrounded by breathtaking rolling hills that change in colour throughout the day. ✨
This artwork is inspired by watching the sunrise over the foothills of Mt Kenya. Some mornings you can see the top of Mt Kenya. This particular morning you couldn’t see the top, but the cloud cover along with the early rays of the sun formed this irresistible pallet which I just had to reproduce. 😍

When I arrived at I was greeted by two giraffes hiding in the mountains.
I was intrigued at how they blended into their surroundings thanks to the golden sunset haze.
In this artwork I have tied to recreate the experience of looking for coloured forms that slightly stand out.
