1ļøā£ What drew you to Ruby Assembly?
You know when you read a job ad and go, āTheyāre just like me, for real!ā? Thatās what happened with Ruby Assembly. It was such a relief to read about an agency that just got it. During my interview for the role, I was completely hooked by the company culture, as well as the talent and vivacity of all the people who work here. I canāt wait to see what magic we can create for our new and existing clients in 2024.
2ļøā£ What is one social media trend business owners should know in 2024?
Authenticity. Itās not really a trend, but weāre all crying out for it at the moment. After a year of hyper-styled grids, slick sponsored content, and the rise of generative AI, I think social media users are hungry for content that feels genuine and approachable.
3ļøā£ Who is an Aussie brand or business that nails social media?
Nala is a fantastic Aussie underwear brand who really nail authentic, inclusive content. Scrolling through their Instagram feed feels like looking at your bad b*tch best friendās grid. Plus, they feature a huge range of diverse bodies on their page - bodies that other brands often claim to cater to but often shy away from on the socials!
4ļøā£ What will you be reading/watching/listening to this year?
I loved The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen, and itās getting a limited series adaptation on TV sometime this year. I would have watched it anyway, but knowing Sandra Oh has been cast in it has made me ten times more excited. She could act out the dictionary, and Iād be mesmerised!
Welcome, Ellen! š
: A popular Australian influencer recently uploaded a video criticising the price of a hand-made ceramic mug she bought at the Finders Keepers Market in Sydney. The small business owner responded, and now a $125 strawberry mug is all social media can talk about. And we are obsessed. šāļø
The original videos have racked up millions of views, and people have also been making their own videos to share their thoughts. Opinions are DIVIDED.
Is the influencer wrong for calling out the cost to her followers, or is the ceramic shop owner overreacting? Did the influencer speak to someone with brown or blonde hair before she bought the mug? Did she *really* not realise it had two handles before paying for it? Will we ever know the truth??

SIGNING OUT: Sheryl Sandberg, Meta's former Chief Operating Officer who coined the infamous phrase "Lean In," is stepping down from the company's board of directors. In a post to (you guessed it, Facebook), Sandberg shared her belief that Meta is "well-positioned for the future" and that she intends to remain an 'informal adviser' for the company.

SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE AI: Artificial Intelligence has immense potential to improve our way of life, but Australians want stronger protections to help manage the risks. Surveys indicate that only one-third of Australians believe adequate safeguards exist for AI design, development, and deployment. According to the just-released Safe and Responsible AI in Australia consultation, the Australian Government is considering multiple mandatory guardrails for AI, whether through changes to existing legislation or new AI-specific laws. Proposed measures include new product testing to ensure safety pre and post-release and requirements for labelling AI systems and watermarking AI-generated content.
