Our big week of performances, education and community workshops in Western Victoria is coming to a close. Orchestra Victoria musicians have been travelling across to Warrnambool, Portland and Hamilton, performing and working with schools, libraries and community ensembles. Thank you to The Helen and Geoff Handbury Foundation for providing us with an endowment that allows us to continue visiting the region. We wish our musicians and staff safe travels back!

Orchestra Victoria is delighted to announce the appointment of Jessica Gethin as our Artistic Advisor. As Principal Conductor of the West Australian Ballet and Head of Orchestral Studies at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Jessica brings a wealth of experience to the role.
One of the most dynamic conductors in the country, Jessica glides seamlessly across genres of symphonic, ballet, opera, contemporary and film and performs extensively both nationally and internationally. She is also the Ambassador for the Perth Symphony’s Women on the Podium Conducting initiative.

Farewell State Theatre! A few weeks ago our musicians along with The Australian Ballet gave their final bows at the Arts Centre Melbourne's State Theatre before it closes for renovations until 2027. A bittersweet moment but it's just goodbye for now, not forever!

We’re off to Sydney! ✈️ Orchestra Victoria will be joining The Australian Ballet for their tour to Sydney for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland© at the Capitol Theatre, as well as performing for the Melbourne season.
In addition to packing their own suitcases, our Operations team Angus, Noah, Kat, Jasper and Erin, have loaded two trucks with everything else we need. This includes 55 percussion cases, 5 timpani, 3 double basses, 6 cellos and 2 trombones! 🧳🥁

Orchestra Victoria will be stepping out of the pit and onto the stage for Victorian Opera’s Candide, conducted by the brilliant Benjamin Northey!
Candide is a unique fusion of opera and musical theatre set amongst the backdrop of Leonard Bernstein’s cult score and features Tony-nominated composer of Beetlejuice and star of Offspring, Eddie Perfect, alongside award-winning breakout member of Hamilton, Lyndon Watts, with renowned operatic singer Maria Mercedes.

Today was our first rehearsal for 2024 and we’re excited to kick off the year with Opera Australia's BMW Opera for All!
We are delighted to be performing with singers Olivia Cranwell, Dimity Shepherd, Shanul Sharma and Simon Meadows, and conductor Brian Castles-Onion .

Applications for our 2024 Richard Bonynge Orchestral Fellowship program close on Monday 15 January. Two positions are available to musicians who have completed Bachelor of Music (Performance) or are at an equivalent or higher standard on an orchestral string instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass).
Orchestra Victoria are also seeking a musician of outstanding ability for the position of Section Principal 1st Violin (applications close Wednesday 28 February) and currently accepting applications for casual auditions for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass (applications close Sunday 14 January).
