๐ We are celebrating one year since opening the Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre. Over that year, more than 950 consumers have received mental health assessment, treatment and care in this purpose-built space. Weโve been able to care for an additional 220 consumers this year thanks to this state-of the-art facility. ๐ Best of all, our consumers recovery rates and experience of the care have improved. ๐โจ
Traditional mental health care settings were transformed to create this therapeutic environment. ๐ฅ Co-designed with families and consumers, the building was designed to support recovery with multidisciplinary care from our team of psychiatrists, nurses, allied health clinicians and peer support workers. ๐ค This visionary model of care is the first in the state to provide a three-tiered service model to ensure each consumer receives specialised care, tailored to their needs and stage of their recovery. ๐๐

๐ฅ Did you know our emergency departments at Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown hospitals are among the busiest in Victoria? On average, we see 435 patients a day. Patients who need urgent medical attention for severe injuries or illness are seen first, which means that people with mild to moderate conditions may need to wait to be seen by our clinicians. In this video, Emergency Critical Care Nurse Caroline tells us about the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, a free video-based healthcare service for adults and children with non-life-threatening conditions. Think infections; nausea and vomiting; minor cuts, rashes, burns or fractures. Available 24/7, the Virtual ED connects you with emergency nurses and doctors via video consultation using your smartphone, computer or tablet. During consultations, clinicians provide medical advice and can organise medication scripts, plus diagnostic tests close to your home. In some cases, they may suggest patients seek further assistance from a GP or a physical ED. Interpreters are available and you can request one during the registration process, which is also available in languages other than English. To access the Victorian Virtual ED, head to Home - Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (vved.org.au) and click on โPatientsโ. The Virtual ED is free of charge and available to all people living in Victoria. Always remember, if youโre having severe trouble breathing, blueness around the mouth, chest pains, or pain in your arms or jaw, call triple zero (000) immediately for urgent help.

At Western Health, we do not currently have ECMO machines onsite. In time-critical situations, ECMO is needed to sustain life and every minute counts. Your donation will help us obtain two lifesaving ECMO machines, giving critically-ill patients like Ajay, access to the equipment they need, when they need it.
