Cultural Connection
In celebration of International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, we acknowledge and honour all Indigenous People around the world, not just today, but every day. Indigenous Peoples across the world continue to embody strength, pride and resilience. It is our Indigenous People’s history and legacies that inspire us to continue on the journey for positive social change.
In honour of this year’s theme, Indigenous Languages, it is important to acknowledge that language is vital to our identity, our culture and our future. It is through language that we teach our knowledge and ways of being. This is why it is urgent that we support our communities and our people, to preserve and revitalise our languages. In this video from the 2017 Koorie Youth Summit, we see the pride in our young people as they talk about what Cultural Connection means to them and sing a song in the language of the Gunditjmara people.

Because of her, we can, we are and always will be
In celebration of the 2018 NAIDOC theme ‘Because of Her, We Can’, we are sharing stories honouring women in our communities.
Created at the 2018 Koorie Youth Summit, these videos express what ‘Because of Her, We Can’ means to young people and the role of our matriarchs in our lives and communities.
These voices and stories are important. Let’s share these four videos: ‘Resilience’, ‘Strength’, ‘Pride’ and ‘Always Will Be’ so everyone can reflect, celebrate and honour the lives and legacies of Aboriginal women.
