Tallulah Bieundurry is a finalist for the Ruby Hutchison Media Award, which acknowledges the media’s significant role in raising awareness of consumer rights in WA. This includes product safety, highlighting breaches of consumer laws and alerting the public about consumer protection issues.
In her first week at ABC Kimberley, Tallulah investigated a luxury cruise company that abruptly cancelled voyages in the area. Her reporting exposed the financial toll on passengers and the disparities within the maritime tourism industry off the Kimberley coast. This not only shed light on the industry, it led to a class action lawsuit against the cruise company.

⭐️ Consumer Protection Awards 2024 - Finalist Showcase ⭐️
The Building Tenancy Skills project by Shelter WA & People With disabilities WA are a finalist in the Richard (Dick) Fletcher Award category, which acknowledges a WA local government authority, non-government organisation or group that have made a significant contribution towards the advancement of consumer protection.
The project was created in 2021 and focuses on preventing evictions and reducing homelessness by empowering tenants with disabilities through awareness of their rights and responsibilities. Noteworthy achievements include systemic advocacy within the sector for accessible consumer information and services, as well as the development of a workshop for service providers to better address the needs of tenants with disabilities.

A Kungarakan/Warramungu woman, Stephanie provides trauma-informed services to financially disadvantaged women in WA, particularly those experiencing family and domestic violence. She not only oversees the legal practice at Women's Legal Service WA, she also strives to ensure accessibility to Aboriginal women while fostering cultural security.

Recalled Christmas Toys
🌟 As the countdown to Christmas continues, Consumer Protection’s product safety officers have been ramping up their inspections to make sure young children are kept safe from potentially dangerous toys.
A total of 274 products have been inspected across 58 stores since November, with 53 items failing to meet product safety standards.
Most of the items removed from shop shelves contained button batteries that did not comply with the information standard – they were either missing mandatory warning labels or did not have secure battery compartments.
