Relaxation massage increases hormones such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin which helps encourage full body relaxation which decreases anxiety, depression, blood pressure. Resulting in better quality of life, improved sleep and overall health.

Referral or referred pain, is pain that is felt in a different area of the body from which the origin of the pain occurs. For example when you have a trigger point (knot) in your trapezius (shoulders) this can refer to your neck and head, even cause you to have headaches or migraines.

To assess this correctly, you are examined before the appointment thoroughly to identify areas of concern and have a treatment plan individually designed specifically for you.

Antagonist and Agonist muscles.

These muscle groups work opposing each other to help with movement. Such as when you flex your hand to your shoulder, your bicep becomes the agonist and contracts while your triceps become relaxed and become the antagonist and relaxes. When extending your arm straight they switch positions. Each movement of your body needs an opposing muscles to help it return to its original state. That’s why when you have sore muscles, we work on the opposite muscle to the tight sore muscle to help relax the whole group of muscles.

Stretching helps the muscles become flexible and healthy, increasing the range of motion. Without stretching they shorten and become tight. Therefore when they are needed for an activity they don’t perform to their capability, that then puts strain on joints and can damage the muscles. I’ve finished!!!!

Over the past 18months I have been busy studying Diploma of Remedial Massage. I completed many hands on hours in clinic and with friends and family being able to successfully complete my Diploma.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to be able to study but be a mum and human all at the same time. I am so thankful to Cory and my children for the patience and support through this whole process. I am thankful to all my family and friends who gave me the confidence and their time to do what I have wanted to do for many years.

Alternative therapies, such as massage therapy have many myths and misconceptions.

Massage therapy has a common perception of ‘no pain, no gain’. Too much pressure and deepens can cause the muscles to tighten more which creates stiffer and sorer muscles.
When experiencing remedial massage therapy it is common to experience some level of discomfort, but you should never be in extreme pain.
For the success of massage therapy, voicing your discomfort, pressure applied will help the therapist make you feel more comfortable and heard, and create a more connected environment for you and your therapist.
There are many different types of massage available for different needs. Relaxation being one of the many types, but all types of massage require your body to become relaxed.
Massage is a holistic approach which not only helps with muscles, but overall well-being, stress relief, pain relief, increase mood, relieve headaches, increase flexibility, improve sleep and decrease anxiety/depression.
Massages help to rejuvenate sore, tired muscles that may have been overworked for a number of reasons. This myth comes from the idea that to relieve tension once, the tension will never reoccur, but the repetitive use of the same muscle/muscle groups will continually cause strain or tension.

Have you heard of your psoas muscle? It's a rather big muscle that joins your spinal column to the front of your pelvis. If your psoas muscle is tight, it can lead to symptoms such as back pain, leg pain, hip pain, bladder pain, pelvic pain, and digestive issues. It can also contribute to PMS symptoms.

Activities such as yoga and pilates are great for stretching and strengthening your psoas muscle, as well as all the other supporting muscles (like the iliopsoas and sartorius).

Chris our Osteopath can help release your psoas as needed and provide you with exercises to further relax and strengthen it.

R.I.C.E - Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate. Dr. Mirkin, creator of the r.i.c.e method of sport injuries, now suggests that ice and complete rest can limit the healing process within the muscles.

Like when you’re ill, your body uses its immune system to heal inflammation and fight off germs. The same happens when a muscle/tissue becomes damaged. Your body sends the same inflammatory cells to the damaged tissues to promote healing.

While protecting, compressing and elevating your damaged muscles, you can pair this with massage to help your body promote healing and prevent further injury.

PNF stretching..

Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching 🙆‍♀️ is an assisted stretch which helps create flexibility and increase the range of motion of that muscle.

Stretching is very important and beneficial to prevent injury. Stretching increases mobility within the muscle and helps the joints move through their full range of motion. Without stretching, the muscles shorten and tighten and are more at risk of injury.

Sports massage…

My daughter competed in a swimming carnival and asked to help her relax her muscles. What a great excuse for me to use my training and knowledge on helping my daughter perform to the best of her ability!

Sports massage targets specific areas that are used for a physical activity (swimming in this case). The use of sports massage is used to help relieve the effects of physical activities.
