What NAIDOC week has meant to us..
It has been a time for learning, listening, understanding and passing on traditions to meet elders, create connections and start something meaningful.
Thank you again Cyril Yarran from Milliyaan Aboriginal services, for imparting your knowledge and wisdom to the children and educators.
We always love your visits.
Also to support our community and it’s “true” needs from the “ground level”, not what we are told, but by what we see, know and be a part of.
By listening to the stories / Yarns our elders have to teach us.
The importance of making a difference, bridging a gap and bringing First Nations people and non indigenous together, to build a happy future for all.
Lots of positive discussions with Beananging Kwuurt Institute and Sister Kates representatives, doing wonderful things at the “Pitch Evening”, planning an open day for all, we fully support this and extend our assistance in helping to make it happen.
Curam will be connecting and assisting with donations on a Thursday at the food drive with Evelyn and Raylene , 2 Fantastic elders and local artists, positive role models and valuable community members we met, we treasure this new community connection !
Happy NAIDOC week
Mother's Day 💐
Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the joy of being a mother and of having a mother and knowing the warmth of her love. It may also be a day to quietly remember a Mum who is no longer with you - you feel the gap that her passing has left and you honour her legacy and all that she meant. It is a day to think of Grandmothers and extended families and the link that mothers are in keeping family ties and traditions together.
Thank you to all of the mums, grandparents, aunts dads and friends who came to our Annual Mother’s Day afternoon tea.
What a spectacular afternoon of pampering, fun and gardening with our guests.
Thank you to the educators and children for all of their hard work making gifts, organising activities, donating baked goods for our Annual Mother’s Day “biggest morning tea”, we raised a few hundred dollars for cancer research.
Thank you to everyone!
Happy Mother’s Day 🪴🫶🏽💐

Families are supported ;community services and resources to support parenting and family wellbeing and
Community engagement; The service builds relationships and engages with its community
Curam ELS has had longstanding engagement, sharing ideas collaborating and giving productive feedback, with the city of Canning.
We have attended workshops, sundowners and being part of various surveys and planning projects.
We subscribe to their “business in focus” group “canning business showcase program and mentorship” and a few years ago we engaged in a “walk and talk” with Ellie Efijemueh and her team from City of Canning.
This was to find out what we could do to encourage a strong Sense of community.
An idea of an organised “street party”, gathering was in place unfortunately covid hit and it has been off the table until recently.
Cùram is looking to plan help this in the near future.
Last week the Families, educators and community were invited to our local park to discuss ideas for improving the space.
Children collaborated to come up with brilliant suggestions, then Miss Kylie went as a representative to put forward our collection of ideas.
This was very well received and the team at City of Canning were pleased we had put in such effort towards their upgrade survey.
Cùram are very proud of the wonderful ideas offered by the children, one such idea was ;
“ signs to remind each other to be kind “.
We also discussed parent’s concerns regarding toilet facilities needed for little ones when at the park, the appreciation for the abundance of natural shade already available, ideas for safety such as fencing and reducing the potential for excessive noice pollution to surrounding neighbours.
Thank you City if canning we are happy to assist in planning and can’t wait to enjoy the new facilities.
Happy National Acts of Kindness Day from Cùram ELS 😁🌺
This yearly event on February 17,
National Random Acts of Kindness Day has been observed by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation Since 1995.
The day is focused on helping others.
Our Quality standards relate ;
Standard 5.1: Respectful and equitable relationships are maintained with each child. Element 5.1. 1: Responsive and meaningful interactions build trusting relationships which engage and support each child to feel secure, confident and included.
Babies sweet peas and Toddler sprouts room have been sharing love and kindness by celebrating valentines and Randomn acts of kindness day.
We have been talking about ways we can be kind, to all people on our planet.
Reading stories about kindness and love and creating with paint and ice to express ourselves and writing messages to people we care about.
We placed these thoughts on decorated hearts on the Curam kindness tree.
We invited all families in the community to join in writing messages to one another …
The result …
Kindy Bloomers and Schoolies Explorers joined in and the result was a very pleasant and harmonious day 🥰☺️🫶🏽
Babies are always learning !!
This week miss Lisa has been practising independent routines, washing hands, packing away and cleaning after meal times. Toddler room readiness.
A strong sense of wellbeing provides children with confidence and optimism which maximise their learning potential.
Materials that teach real-life skills and inspire a love of learning.
Some of the important skills children learn through routines include: self control, positive behaviour and social skills. Routines can even help strengthen the relationship between the child and the educator as power struggles are significantly reduced.
Happy feet Dance 🕺🏿 💃 🪩 🪩🪩🪩
( The wonderful Miss Lee )
is a regular and much loved part of our program at Cùram.
In this activity we mixed dance with BUBBLES and it was a great success 🫧 🫧🫧🫧
Research has shown that toddlers interact positively with other people of various ages who have songs and dances in common with them. Songs/dances/ceremonies shared by a cultural group are critical for maintaining inter-dependence and resilience, and a strong sense of group identity.
Last week
The Toddler sprouts 🌱
practiced their fine motor skills and developed their problem-solving skills by pulling the ribbon through Chinese lanterns.
Learning and recognising what colors and shapes the lanterns were.
The children extended their interests in trains and trucks and used team work to draw in a group.
The babies sweet peas 🍃
have been Extending their interest in balloons and painting boxs to create drums ready for our Chinese new year celebrations.
Science education activities provide children with opportunities to develop and practice many different skills and attributes. These include communication skills, collaborative skills, team working and perseverance, as well as analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
From making their own bubble solution 🫧 🫧
and bubble blowers, 🫧🫧
to exploring Oobleck and making a balloon 🎈
blow up using vinegar and baking soda,
the Vacation care group children had a blast 💥
On Friday they also got to go on a bowling excursion !! 🎳
Lots of sensory activities provided for the Babies room sweet peas by educators Lisa and Allyca 👃👀👅👂
Sensory play facilitates exploration and naturally encourages children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. Spending time stimulating their senses helps children develop cognitively, linguistically, socially and emotionally, physically and creatively.
* 1.4 Children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect.
* 3.1 Children become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing.
* 3.2 Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing.
* 4.3 Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another.
* 4.4 Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials.
The Toddlers sprouts room has been busy learning about the colour green 🈯️🌳🍏🟩🟢 with educator Ying.
Children took turns to roll the roller to paint on the paper. They made interesting patterns and got to feel the paint texture and express themselves through their group art.
They also demonstrated their fantastic fine motor skills.
Next the Toddler sprouts took part in a germ experiment. 🦠🦠🦠
Toddlers helped to draw on the fingers of the glove to make pretend germs.
We talked about how to wash germs away and then took turns to get soap to wash hands.
Cùram is aiming to help toddlers to increase responsibility for their own health and well-being. 😁🌳
This afternoon we celebrated our dads for Father’s Day!
Cùram invited all our families to come in for afternoon tea and participate in some activities along side their children which consisted of ;
decorating neck ties together, playdough sculptures, home made piñata 🪅 and shaving foam fun !
On behalf of all staff and management at Cúram we wish everyone a Happy Fathers Day!
Upcoming Events! 🎈
12th of August 2022: We have Red Nose Day!

Curam ELS is running a colouring competition and hosting a fundraising disco to help fundraise towards the red nose charity!
20-26th of August 2022: BOOK WEEK!
Dreaming with eyes open… is this years theme! Curam will have a dress up day as your favourite book character!
Watch this space as we will share in centre experiences!
Crazy Hair Day!!!!
What a fantastic event this was for all of the children at Cúram!
A fun and exciting way to explore their creativity, and self expression.
Children are able to develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and develop an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary.
The Kindy room have been busy exploring dot painting.
Dot painting is recognised as unique and integral to the aboriginal culture. Although the colours used are appealing when we look at it, however there is always a hidden message behind the art.
Back in the kindy room, they are given an opportunity to explore this and help make our NAIDOC sign. We extended on this, and the children made their own NAIDOC shirts!
Children are learning about traditional histories and being exposed to these opportunities allows them to make connections to our traditional custodian land we learn and play on.
In our toddler room, Miss Ying has been teaching the toddlers about the aboriginal symbols. Miss Ying started by creating a space where the children could go to explore these symbols; to extend more on this, Miss Ying set up a table in the toddler yard where they could use their fine motor skills to draw these symbols!
What a fun activity this was for the children!
NAIDOC Week has arrived and Cúram ELS have begun taking our children on a learning journey into understanding and learning about the importance of NAIDOC week.
Firstly we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, the Nyoongar Whadjuk people, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community!
Please follow us over the week as we will be sharing the in centre learnings and activity we will do with our children.
