The Murchison is such a powerful River, it holds a lot of significance and history, it is one of my favourite places to explore and show my travelling guests especially at this time of the year as we watch the dry river bed slowly fill and flow the inland waters to the ocean, the landscape changes so dramatically after some much needed rain, it also leads us right to some very iconic WA photo hot spots.

Dugong Mothers have a big job with gestation period of 13-15months giving birth to One calf every 3-7 years, calves will stay suckling from mum up to 2yrs and can stay with their mothers around 7yrs
Did you know Dugongs can live over 70yrs and they will choose only one mate to live as a couple for life

We are very privileged in Western Australia to spot Dugongs on the Ningaloo and amongst some of the largest sea grass meadows in the world supporting a healthy population of approximately 10,000 Dugongs in the SharkBay World Heritage Region, Our favourite places to encounter Dugongs is Dirk Hartog Island spotting so many mothers and calves around the Island which we can explore on a day trip or an extended stay to the island on one of our ocean2outback tours from Perth

Of course Monkey Mia is known for its dolphins!! But did you know, it’s quite a common sight to see our Aussie Emu basking on white sandy beaches, in turquoise waters.
Emus love water, they can drink up to 20L of water when they have the opportunity and find a fresh water source.
