Creator of the project, responsible for the repertoire and arrangement of the band, Alexandre Pierre also known as Ale, came originally from the School of Rock.

He studied at the Brazilian School of Music “Villa Lobos” and also participated in drumming classes with Paulinho Black (Ed Mota, Sandra de Sá and Martinho da Vila) and with Guto Goffi (Barão Vermelho).

At the age of 18 he won the state selection of the most important competition for new bands, the MADA, an unprecedented fact for boys at his age.

Years later he went to a percussion workshop with names like: Celso Alvim, C.A. Ferrari, Rodrigo Maranhao and Mestre Maurão (Acadêmicos da Rocinha) and rudiments class with Fred Castilho (author of the book “Rudimentos Brasileiros”), which provided the opportunity to play with the biggest percussive blocks in Rio de Janeiro such as: “Monobloco, Quizomba, Bangalafumenga, Bloco Brasil e Carrossel de Emoções”.

Samba schools like “Mangueira” and “Vila Isabel” have marked his learning of samba.

For 8 years he had the opportunity to travel around Brazil and abroad, in addition to playing with great names in Brazilian popular music such as: “Elba Ramalho”, “Milton Nascimento”, “Gilberto Gil”, “Marcelo Falcão”, “Tony Garrido,” “Bochecha”, among others.

Ale has been working tirelessly to bring his musical experience to Australia. He will use his best efforts and experience to launch his Band ““WTD?! What the Drums”! 🙌💥

From the new generation of Brazilian Musician in Perth, “WTD?! What the Drums Band” is a thrilling band that will soon be launched and firsthand to the Brazilian community.

The band uses the instruments of the Samba: Surdo (bass drum), caixa (snare), repique (high tom), tamborim (small frame drum), agogo (bell), chocalho (shaker) and cuica–in a broader musical universe.

Samba is our musical and technical basis, but have also created other arrangements and adaptations to different rhythms like coco, ciranda, marcha, xote, maculelê, quadrilha, samba-charme, congo, samba-rock, funk and much more.

Inspired by Monobloco Band, “WTD?! Band” will bring the best of Brazilian percussion beats in Perth!
