I have been catching myself lately in moments where my heart rate starts to increase, my tension starts to increase and my mind is going a million miles an hour. This technique has been amazing for grounding me, accessing my PNS and helping me focus on the now.
Try it and let me know how you go! Sometimes I do this up to 3 rounds with a little more detail each time
5 Diaphragmatic breaths
4 Things I can see in detail (colour, texture)
3 Things I can hear in detail (tone, distance)
2 Thing I can feel (temperature, pressure)
1 Breath with a full focus on a feeling I would like to feel... for me this is usually calm, or focused etc.

Feeling like you have lost your independence can be a huge transition and tough to navigate! Out of everything I have gone through and am going through with my chronic illness, this is one of the toughest things I had to navigate!
I was so independent! Moved across the country by myself, put myself through University, got a job and lived by myself. I was living the life that I had always dreamt of! Until I collapsed and spent the next week in hospital unable to take myself to the toilet or shower, only to go home to be in a wheelchair and dependant on someone for what felt like an eternity! This drove me to manage my condition to the best that I could so that I could gain some independence back and autonomy over my life.
So for those that feel like you've lost everything, I know that feeling and it is so tough! Better days are coming and truly believe that!

Asking for help, changing plans or having to do things your way can't help but make you feel like you are a burden sometimes! My advice.. surround yourself with people who understand, who lift you up and people who you are comfortable with to ask them to slow down a little for you.

When I was first diagnosed I wore compression garments all the time, slowly with better management I was able to use these less and less. They are still a handy tool that I carry with me if I need some extra support and quick.
