Exploring Gendered Safety Work
Safety work is the often-automatic activities individuals engage in to avoid intrusion, threat, and prevent them from experiencing harm by others.
We are a group of Psychology Honours students at Curtin seeking participants to share their views on safety work so to better understand the potential impact engaging in safety work might have on individuals and communities. We are particularly interested in learning from you about the following topics:
If you:
• identify as a woman. or feel a connection to womanhood
• are aged 18 years or older
What sort of actions do you take to protect yourself from violence and harassment? Many of us hold our keys between our fingers, or avoid going out at night altogether. Some of us learn self-defence.
Researchers have called these everyday protective actions 'safety work'.
