This gorgeous pair were a commission for a fabulous client. The dresser was her grandmother’s though it had been stored in a shed for 30 years!
The client had purchased a matching navy cupboard I posted a couple of months ago not realising it was the same furniture maker and style as her Nanna’s dresser in storage! The dresser was almost beyond repair for being in the shed for so long. But we really wanted to save it.
These were designed to match the navy cupboard as they would become part of a bedroom set. We kept the original legs as these reminded my client of her Nanna. There were only 4 and they were too long to go side by side so I cut them down and joined the curves. I had some similar legs in my collection that we used for the back 4 legs. Due to 30 years in a shed, every piece of wood and veneer were split and coming apart, requiring weeks of repair work.
We tried about 15 different handles, until I decided to refurnish the original ones to match. So we managed to rescue everything from her Nanna’s
dressing table right down to the hinges!
I love pieces like this that are sentimental and a part of someone’s family history. As much as this dressing table has been held onto for all these years, it was never going to be used again in someone’s house. Now my client has her favourite piece of furniture from her Nanna with all the memories she has of it in her own house. And they are such unique statement pieces that she gets to tell their story to anyone who sees them!

This tall mid century beauty was pretty neglected and in need of some repairs and a makeover.
Saved as much of the gorgeous teak as possible which compliments the metallic copper in the print. Finished in a deep smokey navy to match the mid century print.

So many layers of old paint that had to be removed. Even all over the inside and outside edges of the drawers! Stripped back to reveal timber edging. New timber legs and custom made pulls. This gorgeous pair of bedside drawers are part of a set with the dresser / drawers coming next week. 😊

I loved this bedroom set as the original MCM design.
Though unfortunately the teak was extremely orange and the finish was peeling. The rounded edging on the front was plastic and splitting and cracked. The veneer panels under the handles and the plastic edging was also splintering with large pieces missing. So I removed these, resurfaced the drawers and finished in a earthy pale green.
The bodies I stripped to back to lighten and re-stain. And look how that grain pops now!
The matching dresser to these bedside drawers is in progress to complete this set 😊

What started as a little old sewing machine cupboard ( though still cute as a button) now can continue as a record cabinet, drinks cabinets, mini sideboard…
I loved this little cupboard when I found it, though the top had seen better days and all the corners were destroyed. Through the top and bottom have a beautiful angled edging detail. Gorgeous teak drawers, legs and original pulls paired a with a deep teal colour. The two top drawers have cute little wooden compartments. I removed the hinge and sealed the flap closed from the inside base of the sewing machine compartment to maximise the storage and versatility.
The main cabinet is the perfect fit for your record collection or anywhere you need additional storage!

This mid century sideboard is beautifully constructed and structurally in fantastic condition. It was the stain and varnish that was cracked and peeling.
I sanded and stripped the entire sideboard down. Removed all the hardware including the piano hinges which I stripped and refinished chrome to complement the new colour.
The timber vintage recessed handles are from my collection. I stained the legs and base to match which took a few days to remove a lot of redness from the base.
It is finished in a soft grey green colour, like a very pale blue eucalyptus gum.
The interior is timber and in perfect condition and has been waxed and buffed. The top cutlery drawer is beautifully constructed with the original red felt in pristine condition.
Now a gorgeous mid century sideboard with coastal vibes and light colours to match any decor.

This was a commissioned piece for a fabulous client. She loved the navy kitchenette I had done though wanted green to match her decor.
We were so lucky to find the same kitchenette for sale that day! It was meant to be!New glass doors are being custom made and it was missing a sliding cabinet door when it arrived, so we made a new one.
There was one vintage round handle on the piece, though I had some extras in my collection that matched. These were finished in a soft gold, which now match the leg bases, hinges and shelf supports.
The colour is a custom mix to match her kitchen cabinets. The wallpaper was from my collection, the gorgeous yellow in the interior is also a custom mix to match some very cool artwork she has.
Loved how this one turned out 😊😁💚

The top of this cabinet was a previous custom piece. So the base cabinet was a perfect mid size sideboard / low cabinet. ( swipe for before photo).
I took the old trim off the doors and also removed the base and top timber edging and replaced it with a large square edge along the top and bottom with enough overhang to frame the doors. This was to give it a modern look and also to ensure the slats / fretwork I added, were set back into the cabinet not protruding past the top and base off the cabinet. So when you look at the cabinet you can’t see the edges of timber slats on the doors. Giving it a clean streamlined look and that the slats are not just an add on later.
Finished in a smokey navy and of course the colourful print in the inside for some fun and to continue the linear fretwork theme.

I forgot to take the before photos! Doh! ( swipe for the only one I have) A friend picked these up for me so long ago. When I got them they were in bad shape. The back boards were all broken and I didn’t really feel inspired. A shed clean out and I thought I’d give them a chance. A couple of old chairs, two vintage bedside drawers, lots of power tools and here they now are. I resized the carcass to reduce the size to three drawers so I could add some bell bottom legs I made from old dining chairs. Vintage teak pulls I have collected and a retro Palm Springs green. And a vintage sunny yellow retro print to line the drawers.

I was contacted by a friend of a friend. They were emptying their mothers house who had passed away and wanted to see if I would like any of the furniture, though we could not coordinate a time. 7 months later she contacted me again and asked if I would take this dresser.
When I got it to my workshop I realised it was almost beyond repair. Every wooden drawer runner had to be replaced. All the drawers were falling apart and completely warped. The base had rotted and legs had snapped. Everything was out of whack and disintegrating.
But I felt this beautiful lady had a very strong sentimental connection to the dresser. Her mother had passed away and this was her dresser growing up. I couldn’t bear to break her heart and throw it out. So I rebuilt it all of it. I then asked her what her favourite colours were. Either bright pink or the ocean and blues. It wasn’t a commissioned piece, though I thought due to such a strong connection she had, she would like to be involved.
These are the most rewarding restorations. Understanding peoples connection to furniture and the strong emotions and memories they represent.
Sentimental bo****ks maybe, though I know two people who feel good about it 🥰

I bought this cupboard as I loved the drawers inside with hand carved handles. The drawers are solid timber, dovetailed Silky Oak with the most sublime wood grain and colouring. Even the insides of the drawers are silky oak! These have been finished with multiple coats of Scandinavian oil.
Overall It was in pretty rough shape and I underestimated the amount of work needed. It was the project, that never ended 😂
The original top was too bulky and dated and I wanted to highlight the curved edges of the doors, so we made a new streamlined timber top and routered the edges.
Inside is one of my favourite prints 😍 on both doors! The outside of the cabinet is in a deep navy and the inside in a soft greige, both to match the print and highlight the beautiful timber grain!
New legs and handles finished in the same print. These are sealed with eight coats ( that’s when I stopped counting 😂) of polyurethane.
Do you think she was worth all the effort?😊

How cool is this vintage sideboard! Made by WA furniture maker Allwood in the 1950’s.
Check out the beautiful original glass sliding doors and the cool etching designs in gold and black. I’ve never seen one like this before!
I found a couple of things in the drawers. The drawers were lined with the local newspaper from 1991, which my partner pulled out to read. Not as old as the cabinet, but a fun read for over 30 years ago. It had an article with photos about a house built in the suburb City Beach, stating it even had a connection for fax line! My partner took the article to that house, knocked on the door and gave it to the current owners. They moved in 5 years after the article was printed. They loved it and were going to frame the article.
The other was a little card stating a name and they were the winner of the cabinet it was for Northam ( a small country town) Country Club opening day door prize.
It’s now ready to gather another lifetime of memories 😊
