All round great effort last night by the team, We had Tina & Dev give it their all and we are Super Proud of uses both 🙌.Congratulations Tina on a fantastic Win against a more experienced boxer, Each fight Tina you continue to improve this is reflective of how hard you train! Well done 🥊. Devan you fought awesome against a quality top ranked boxer, you took the fight to him and clearly won the fight, but unfortunately you got robbed of the win 🥊. Balga Boxing Club 1974. 🥊​​​​​​​​
In the beginning Balga Boxing Club was started at our home, this photo was taken in the mid 70's in our backyard boxing ring. The guy in the middle is Billy Edwards. Billy was like a big brother to me growing up, even living at our house for some time. Billy went on to win the Pro Bantam and Light Weight State Titles, under my father. ​​​​​​​​

During the summer the whole yard would be filled with kids and young men from the area. Training would start around 5pm, and end just before dinner. The sparring that took place in that ring was better than the Pro Fight Cards you see today. Trainers from all over the state would bring their boys to Arkana Road Balga to see their friendly foe Joe Fazio. Back in the day a trainer called Brian Shipley would bring a notorious Indigenous fighter Baby Cassius. Ask anyone that knows, Baby Cas was one of the best fighters you've ever seen. He was a gem of a bloke who would play marbles with me in our lounge room while Mum cooked pasta for all the boys post training. Dad would be telling stories to those sat around the table whilst Brian Shipley sat at the end drinking his signature scotch and milk. 🥛👊🏽

You fought smart and showed you can box and move beautifully 🥊 You bought the belt back to Balga 🥊🦈🥊boxing Devan we didn’t get the decision our way on the night. You fought hard from the first bell your punch count and shots landed were like no other you won each round in ours and in many others eyes. More often than not at Balga boxing club we don’t just have our opponents to beat we have others with a bias toward us in the ring. It’s long running stigma which we will work towards eliminating, I know it’s frustrating but we will rise above an not let this stop us from achieving greatness. We would like to thank our opponents, coaches, sponsors and members for all your support.

We wish our boys all the best for tomorrows Golden Gloves Finals, Everyone get down to Stirling Adriatic Club to watch put on a show 🥊🦈 fights start at 1pm the boys won’t be on until after 6pm.

To all our supporters an members we just like to let you know that unfortunately Dev has had to withdraw from National Titles due to sickness. To The ICEMAN what a year we have had to date, coming off a 2 year break you have dominated the 75kg division in your first year of senior Elite boxing. You exceeded all the goals we set out for at the beginning of the year. The Club is very proud of your dedication an commitment to the sport an the club. My father, Joe Fazio, ran Joe Fazio's Balga Boxing Club from our back yard and the local community centre for over 50yrs. Now in his passing, young Josh and Ricky, who were his right hand men and committed friends and supports have taken over as head coaches to continue Dad’s legacy. Boxmaster Combat is proud to be sponsoring the Balga Boxing Club and honouring Dad through the next generation of fighters.
