Ode of Rememberence

Bala yuart manjung koorliny,
They shall not grow old,

Yeye ngulluckiny alla nidja nyinniny manjung wart koorliny;
As we that are left grow old;

Manjungaliny yuart coorlyamart balung,
Age shall not weary them,

Age shall not nor the years condemn.

Nidja ngangk woort koorliny ngardal ngoorndeen

Burdiya Mob – Djarliny
⚠️ WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this video may contain images and names of people who have now passed away. “This song is about listening to Elders when they show us our land and our culture.” – Lionel Whitby, participant in CAN’s Burdiya Mob project, 2017 It’s flashback Friday and we’re travelling back to 2017 with this powerful music video by Burdiya Mob, a group of young Aboriginal people from Narrogin. The song’s title “Djarliny” (listen in Noongar) is grounded in the respect the young performers have for their Elders, and their desire to learn from them. Produced by CAN, “Djarliny” was written and recorded during a series of CAN workshops with an incredible line-up of professional artists: Gina Williams, Ian Wilkes, Scott Griffiths, Poppy van Oorde-Grainger and Matsu. Watch the ‘making of’ video and find out more about this project on the CAN website here. >> 🔗 https://www.can.org.au/community/burdiya-mob/djarliny If you love this music video then stay tuned because we’ll have another fantastic music video clip, made by young people from Hedland’s First Nations and multicultural communities, as part of our Now Sounds Hedland project.
