MSDBA Conduct Senior Domestic Competitions on Tuesday & Wednesday Nights, at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre(MSAC). 1.
METROPOLITAN AMATEUR BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION was established in 1951, Arch McGrechan was the original President. Metro conducted men's competition only. In 1957 they purchased shares in Basketball Stadiums Victoria for the purpose of building the old Albert Park Stadium. From 1958 to 1982 Metro conducted competition on courts 1,2,3 & 4.

It is with very heavy hearts we extend our condolences to the Family and Friends of one of our valued members Avis Scullin OAM who passed away on the 27th August 2024.

Avis will be missed by all of us at the Metro and Southern Districts Basketball Association(Spartans Basketball) but in particular the score bench community and the players from court 3 prior to 2020. Avis could be found every Tuesday night, on court 3, where she managed all the scorers on Tuesday nights for more than 20 years. For over 20 years Avis has been a valued member of our scorer community, board member, Vice President and help the position of President of the association, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in Basketball administration. Avis was proudly awarded a life membership of the Metro and Southern Districts Basketball Association.

Tuesday 25th July - we have just been informed the Australian Boomers will be using our courts 9 and 10 for training tonight.
MSAC has now made the previously unavailable courts 1 and 2, available for our use. With construction work moved to the side.
No games have been canceled or game times changed. However you may be playing on a different court than normal, so please check on Playhq.
Court 11 and 12 are behind the table tennis hall, please speak to staff at the front desk if you need any assistance.

Unfortunately due to upcoming works to the external cladding to the Basketball hall, we will loose access to some courts on July 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26.

Vale Dianne Widdis (June 1943 – 4th July 2023)
Our love and thoughts are with Dianne’s family and friends at this very sad time.
Dianne will be missed by all of us at Spartans basketball but in particular the score bench community and the players from A Res and B Grade Men. Dianne could be found every Tuesday night, on court 9, where she managed all of “her boys”. For over 15 years Dianne has been a valued member of our Scorer community, attending MSAC each week, bringing a wicked sense of humour and always with a smile and a fun attitude, Dianne was well known, regarded as an excellent scorer and a very kind hearted and caring woman.
Dianne started as a score table official in 1994, gaining her National Level 4 accreditation in 2009 at the Wheelchair Basketball: Asia Oceania Men’s Championships 2009 held at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium, and scoring NBL1 and BigV games at the Sandringham Basketball association.
On Tuesday 11th July, at the start of each game a moments silence will take place and black arm bands will be made available to pay respect to Dianne.
Dianne will be sadly missed by us all.

We will be hosting a senior basketball tournament in early Feb in conjunction with some Masters Basketball Clubs from around the state.
The event is open to locals and are encouraged to enter a side in one of the different categories.
Ladies: 30+ & 40+ handicapped (based on combined teams age)
Men: 35+, 45+ handicapped (based on combined teams age) & 70+ half court & full court (team entries permitting)
The event will bring teams from across the state to Maffra to compete and have some fun on and off the court.
$40 per player.

Games on Tuesday 17/1/23 will go ahead as scheduled. If the temperature holds as expected in the mid to high 30s, heat timing will be in place on all courts for the health and safety of Players and Officials who have to work multiple games throughout the night.
HEAT TIMING RULES
When the court temperature reaches 30oC, Association Staff must consider implementing and where the court temperature reaches 35oC, must implement the following amendments to the timing rules in article 10.1 and 10.2:
– Each half reduced to 18 minutes
– Compulsory Time out: the referee must call an additional compulsory timeout close to the half way mark in each half, where the clock will STOP.

Access into MSAC
From Wednesday 7 December – Access to the venue remains via Aughtie Drive only. Old Aughtie Drive will be closed and become part of the FINA WSC event space. Entrance will be through Main Reception and/or Basketball Stadiums entry only. Aquatics entry will be closed.
Carpark
The Stadiums (Southern) Carpark will be accessible and available to all via the Aughtie Drive entry. There will be no access to the Multi Deck Carpark from Wednesday 7 December.
