I mean, my dates love this frock! And by dates, I mean my two kids who don't yet know about our fancy "Galentine's Day" dinner this evening. But there will be flowers and heart-shaped balloons, chocolates and a nice dinner... you know, just for the fun of it.

I love sharing REAL RESULTS for my local social media clients. Each month, all my clients receive a comprehensive report so we can review and analyse how their content performed. I look carefully at what seems to be working, and what can be improved.

For example, how many views did our reels get? And did they attract much engagement? What about carousel posts? How many followers did we gain this month? How many story views? Which hashtags seemed to work best? And what platforms are giving us the best results? What was our best performing post? The worst? The one with the most comments?

I use all this data to see if we need to tweak the content or the social media strategy to get better results, and to ensure we are reaching our ideal audience. And since I work with local businesses, our ideal audience is people in our local area who are likely to go and visit that store, office, cafe, salon or workshop.

This nifty little graph shows insights from a local business here in , and you can see we achieved 88,000 impressions in the month of January. Side note... Rocky has a population of about 90,000 people so this is a really great monthly result!

Moreover, we improved our Facebook impressions by 22,000 over December's content - up 55%! And we continue to grow the Instagram page nicely with a 170% improvement on the previous month... 15,000 more impressions!

If you currently have a social media manager or a social media agency, and they aren't providing you with Monthly Reports, now might be a good time to ask for one. And if they aren't forthcoming, I'd also ask why not. Working with someone who doesn't provide comprehensive monthly reports is a huge red flag to me.

I mean, if you don't know your data... how do you know what you are doing is working?

These Facebook scàm messages are coming in thick and fast!

If your business page is receiving these, DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS! My client pages are receiving these every day lately, and they all pretty much look and say the same thing. It's the same message, and it's the same blue and white Profile Pic designed to make you think it's a legit message from Facebook.

The username is usually different, and I assume it belongs to a real person who managed to get their account hàçkèd.

Given the huge uptake in these messages lately, I'm assuming some h@ckerrs have found the city of "Rockhampton" on their map and are working their way through whatever Rocky businesses they can find on Facebook.

Here's your options:

1. Just ignore it - but don't click any links!

2. Reply. You can reply with "Thanks" if you like, as this might help you retain your messaging response rate. But don't engage further (or just keep replying "Thanks") and don't click any links!

3. Block / Delete / Report. If you have the time to do this, then great. Go for it. But if not, that's okay too. I'm sure someone else will and the accounts will eventually be disabled (like the third screenshot). You can block them from sending you future messages, delete the conversation, and even report the user to Facebook.

I'm pretty sure this will slow down soon (and probably be replaced by some other scãm or spåm message). I often think about how these scªmmers could probably run and awesome legitimate business if they put half as much effort into a real business as they do in trying to scªm people.

👉 This goes for all the "I'm selling 4 Taylor Swift Tickets" posts and stories you see too! Most likely also a scām... especially when it's being posted to unmonitored community pages and stories.

I'm feeling those New Year Summer Vibes and starting 2024 with a BANG 💥... how bout you?

This morning, I was on a Yearly Planning Call with my mentor (and old school mate) Tash Corbin and as usual, it was 🔥🔥🔥

I'm part of Tash's 2024 Planning Posse after joining last year and seeing what a positive difference some clarity in my planning gave me during 2023. It was a no-brainer to join again!

I've just mapped out my BIG PLANS for this year including:

- 2 launches for my local Social Media Management business (definitely locked in)
- 2 LIVE ROUNDS of Social Media Coaching to help aspiring social media managers focussing on local businesses (this one is penciled in atm lol)
- 2 Family Holidays - very important, must go in the Business Plan... or what am I even working for?!
- A virtual conference
- An in-person conference
- A potential podcast (just a post-it note at the moment / not top priority)
- Rolling out my new brand colours (I needed a change after 3 years!)
- And a business retreat overseas with the wonderful Claire Riley so I can get s**z done for all these grand plans!

That all sounds pretty busy, I know. So let's check back later in the year and see how I'm travelling!

🎉🥂 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! 🪩🥳

2023 was an incredible year of growth for my business, and I couldn't be happier with how the year turned out for me and my little family.

The year didn't start out smooth sailing, despite my best-laid plans, I took a hit in January when our family dog died suddenly and tragically, devastating both my kids and I. And there were a few legal issues early in the year courtesy of The Ex-husband.

But you know what they say... you can't keep a good woman down! Especially not one fueled by rage, wine and murder podcasts.

From March, everything just fell neatly back into place, as my "little social media business" just soared!

Do I post much on Instagram? No, not really, and it's something I'm working on. But my business grew anyway. I joined Group Coaching Programs, Planning Posse's, and attended both virtual and in-person Conferences. I met LOTS of inspiring women in business.

I said I'd stick to working school hours only - no more late nights or weekends - and I've been pretty good about that too. I took my kids on two holidays here in Queensland, and never missed a Sports Day, birthday party, or school event.

I said I'd get out and social more, and I did. Still not sure how I feel about that though lol... I do love being at home in the air-con with my kids and my dogs! Oh yes, and we eventually brought a new puppy home too. We are a two-dog household once again.

I kept the bills up-to-date, the mortgage paid, joined an exercise group and reluctantly became a "Dance Mum" this year. Most of the houseplants are still alive.

If you look at my Spotify Wrapped, I consumed wayyy too many hours of murder podcasts, and probably too much wine and cheese this year too 😆 (but that's nothing new!).

I have fantastic clients, an awesome business, freedom and flexibility in my work hours, and I can't imagine ever going back to "a real job".

So, to all my followers, THANK YOU for your likes, comments, emoji's and support throughout 2023.

To my clients - you are the real MVP's! THANK YOU for trusting me with your social media, your content, and your followers. And also for paying your invoices on time 🤣

And most of all [and I'm quoting Snoop Dogg here], "I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work. I wanna thank me for having no days off [ok, I had a few, and will try to have more in 2024]. I wanna thank me for never quitting. I wanna thank me for always being a giver and trying to give more than I receive. I wanna thank me for trying to do more right than wrong. I wanna thank me for being me at all times, [Shannon] you a bad motherf**ker."

Woohoo, you made it! You are on the Nice List! Now it's time to do a quick check and a Christmas Eve update. On the final day of our festive journey, let's make sure everything is in place.

🎁 If you haven't already done so, activate the auto-replies you set up on Day 9.

🎁 Check that you have a post scheduled about your opening hours for today (Christmas Eve). It's your last chance to let your followers know what you are up, what time you are closing, and if you have any great last minute gift ideas such a Gift Vouchers.

🎁 And if you aren't open today, pop up a festive photo for the fun of it! If you can't take one now, grab one that we snapped back on Day 6.

Woohoo, we're nearly there! It's time to create your New Year's Day greeting. 🥂

Today, design a celebratory New Year's Day post and schedule it in to your planner for 1st January. Wish everyone a Happy New Year from your business, adding a touch of joy and positivity to start the year off right. You can post this early in the morning to also remind your customers that your shop/venue/business is closed today. And if you are open, make sure to let them know that too!

Here's an example:

Prep your New Year trading hours announcement. Take a few minutes to create a post about any changes to your New Year trading hours to keep your audience and customers informed about your availability on New Year's Eve and Day.

Let your customers know if you are shutting up shop early on New Year's Eve, opening later on New Year's Day, or closed over this period. Schedule it in to your planner around the 29th or 30th of December to keep your followers informed of these changes. Don't forget to include a note wishing everyone a great New Year!

Today, let's set up your holiday auto-replies!

We all know about the out-of-office responder for your work emails, but did you know that you can prepare auto-replies for your Facebook and Instagram messages too?

It’s a lifesaver when your business is going to be closed for the holidays, either for a few days or a whole week, so that your customers aren’t left hanging and know when they might receive a reply to their enquiry.

You may like to include a note about any changes to your regular trading hours as well as the days and dates you'll be closed. Oh, and pop in a Merry Christmas message while you are at it.

Day 8: 🎄 12 Days of Christmas [Social Media Edition] 🎅

Tell us about your Boxing Day plans! Are you having a big Boxing Day Sale or are you closed and taking a break? Let your audience know what to expect. You're followers will want to know if you are going be open, and if you are, will you have bargains?!

So today's task is to create a post for Boxing Day, and schedule it to publish early on the morning of the 26th December.

If you will be closed on Boxing Day, you can schedule a simple message such as:

🎁 Good morning! We hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas! Just a quick reminder that [Your Business Name] is closed today to give our team a little holiday break. But don't worry, we'll be back with bells on (not literally, but you get the idea) this [Wednesday at 9am]. Enjoy your Boxing Day, and we can't wait to see you soon!

If you'll be open, and are having a sale, try something like this:

🎁 Rise and shine, everyone! We're OPEN today ~ BOXING DAY ~ from [9am to 2pm], and guess what? It's time for our massive Boxing Day Sale! 🛍️ If you've had your eye on our [products], today's your lucky day – they're all heavily discounted! Don't miss this chance to grab some incredible deals. Come on in, explore our range, and make the most of these amazing prices. See you soon!

Let's schedule your Merry Christmas message! Prepare a heartfelt Christmas Day message paired with a festive team photo. Take a fresh photo or look back at one that we snapped yesterday on Day 6. This post should embody the spirit of your business and spread cheer to your audience.

But whatever you do, schedule it into your planner TODAY! You don't want to be posting on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day... I'm sure you have way more exciting things to do!

Day 6: 🎄 12 Days of Christmas [Social Media Edition] 🎅

Snap some festive photos! 📸 Capture the holiday spirit in your workplace or team and share these moments on social media. These photos can be a fun and personal touch to your brand’s festive celebrations. Aim for three photos to post and schedule across the next week... and make sure to post one today! (Spoiler alert: you'll need a pic for Christmas Eve if you want to take an extra one, just in case!)

It can be as easy as showing off your Christmas outfits or decorated office. Perhaps you are frantically packing orders or creating custom items. Whatever it is, show us what happens behind the scenes during Christmas in your business. Bonus points if you manage to drag your team members off for a photo with Santa.

Already finished work for the year and enjoying your holidays? You can post that too! Work alone? Take a selfie with your pet or your Christmas tree. Anything goes!

Let's put some Holiday Trading Hours to the bottom of your posts. I like to add these like a 'PS' message in my client's captions as it gets closer to public holidays when there are deviations to their normal opening times. It helps to remind followers when you will and will not be open for business.

Here's some examples I use, where I put the trading hours in a list after my business name and town name hashtags (then I put all my other hashtags down at the very botton for Insta):


✅ Sat 23rd Dec: Open 9am to 1pm
✅ Sun 24th Dec: Open 9am to 1pm Christmas Eve
❌ Mon 25th Dec: Closed Christmas Day
❌ Tue 26th Dec: Closed Boxing Day
✅ Wed 27th Dec: Open as usual, 9am to 5pm


✅ 23rd Dec: Open 9am to 1pm
✅ Christmas Eve: Open 9am to 1pm
❌ Christmas Day: Closed
❌ Boxing Day: Closed
✅ 27th Dec: Open 9am to 5pm

Here's another way you can do this, if your trading hours aren't overly complicated:


🎄 PS: We will be closed from [this date] to [this date]. We'll re-open at [time] on [date]. Merry Christmas!

However you do it, the aim is to remind your followers that there are some changes to your regular trading hours over the holidays. No one likes rocking up to their favourite store being unexpectedly closed!

Let's spread the word about your holiday Trading Hours.

On Day 2, we set your holiday trading hours and updated your Google Business Profile. So today, let’s share them on Facebook and Instagram as well (maybe even LinkedIn if you are feeling frisky).

Create a post detailing your trading hours and pin it to the top of your profiles. Clear communication is key to ensuring your customers know when to find you during the festive season. I'd also recommend taking a look at the trading hours shown on your page to make sure they are also correct.

Day 3: 🎄 12 Days of Christmas [Social Media Edition] 🎅

Spark joy with a Giveaway or Special Discount! We're halfway through December, so if you wanted to run a giveaway or offer your followers a special discount, today's the day! Plan something that will excite and engage your audience. Make it memorable and festive. Create your post and POST IT!

Here's some ideas:

⛄️ If you have a product, service or gift voucher to giveaway, this can be really easy. Just ask your followers to comment below, share your post and tag some friends to enter.
⛄️ Run a promo where you ask your followers to "show us this post in store before Christmas to get __% off your next purchase".
⛄️ Purchase something festive from a nearby local business and collaborate with them for your giveaway. For example, you could get a Christmas ham from a local butcher, Hampers from your local florist or gift store, vouchers for a massage, etc. People love to win things and it's alway great to collaborate with other businesses!
