Although today is the first day of autumn, it doesn't mean sun-safe habits should fade away! 🍂
Even as the season changes, UV rays still pose a threat to your skin's health. Keep up your sun protection to guard against sun damage and premature aging.

Today marks National Skin Check Day, reminding us all of the importance of regular skin checks. 🔎

Did you know Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world? It's estimated that around 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they reach the age of 70.

Engaging in routine skin checks with a dermatologist or general practitioner (GP) is essential for early detection.

Fact or Fiction?
Eczema does not occur in adults who have never experience eczema as a child. only occurs in children.

Fiction! 🚫👶 Contrary to common belief, eczema is not exclusive to children. Many adults experience the onset of eczema or continue to live with it. Adult eczema can be influenced by factors such as stress, environmental irritants, and even certain fabrics. Symptoms typically include dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. Management involves identifying and avoiding triggers, maintaining a regular skincare routine, and using prescribed treatments where required. Importantly, eczema can have a significant impact on quality of life, necessitating not just physical but also psychological care. Understanding that eczema may become a lifelong condition helps in its management and reduces the stigma surrounding it.

Fact or Fiction?
Acne is just a teenage problem.

Fiction🚫! It's a common misconception that acne is exclusive to teenagers. In reality, acne can affect individuals at any age, and adult acne is increasingly common. Hormonal fluctuations, stress, lifestyle factors, and certain medications are all potential triggers for acne in adults. While the underlying causes of teenage and adult acne may differ, the impact on one's self-esteem and emotional well-being can be significant at any age. 🧖‍♀️🌟

As the Australian Open reaches its climax, let's celebrate healthy skin. Remember, regular skin checks, using the right skincare products, and practicing sun safety are key to maintaining skin health. Our team is dedicated to providing expert advice and care for your skin, helping you achieve and maintain its best condition 🏆🌟. Thank you for following our skin health series during the Australian Open. Let’s keep the spirit of health and wellness alive throughout the year. Here’s to healthy skin and great tennis!

25/01/2024

As the tennis stars showcase their skills, let’s remember that skin health is more than skin deep. Factors like diet, stress, and sleep quality play significant roles in skin health. Balanced nutrition, managing stress, and getting enough sleep are as crucial for your skin as they are for your overall well-being 😴🍏. At our clinic, we take a holistic approach to skin health. Consult with our experts to understand how lifestyle factors can impact your skin and what steps you can take to improve it.

As we enjoy the mid-tournament excitement, let's shed light on melasma, a common skin condition that can worsen in summer. Characterised by dark, discoloured patches on the skin, melasma is often exacerbated by sun exposure. Wearing a broad-spectrum tinted sunscreen and seeking shade are key preventive measures 🌳🧴. If you're concerned about your melasma, our clinic offers treatments and advice to manage these conditions effectively. You can book a nurse-led skincare consultation on our website

22/01/2024

As the competition heats up, let’s talk about keeping your sunscreen cool. Heat can degrade the active ingredients in sunscreen, reducing its effectiveness. Always store your sunscreen in a cool, shaded place. And remember, if your sunscreen has been left in direct sunlight or in a hot car, it might be time for a new bottle 🚗🌞. This tip is particularly crucial for those spending long hours outdoors. Whether you're playing sports or cheering at the Australian Open, your sunscreen needs to be at its best to protect your skin.

21/01/2024

Today, let's dive into the world of sunscreen ingredients. Ever wondered what makes your sunscreen work? Ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone, and octocrylene are chemical filters that absorb UV radiation. Physical filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide reflect UV rays. Each type has its benefits, and our team can help you choose the best one for your skin type 🧴🔬.

19/01/2024

In the spirit of observation that tennis requires, let's focus on observing our skin. Skin cancer is a major concern in Australia, and early detection is crucial. Do you know the ABCDEs of melanoma? Look for Asymmetry, irregular Borders, multiple Colours, large Diameter, and Evolution of moles. If you spot any changes, it's time to consult a dermatologist or your GP. Your skin health is as important as any match point 🎾🔍. Stay vigilant, stay safe.

Fact or Fiction
Heavy exfoliating for a brief period of time can improve skin texture.

Fiction! 🚫🧽 Over-exfoliating can actually damage the skin barrier, no matter how brief the period is! This can lead to irritation, dryness, and increased sensitivity. While exfoliation helps in removing dead skin cells and improving skin texture, it should be done gently and moderately. Depending on your skin type and what other products and treatments you may be using, once or twice a week is generally sufficient. It's also important to choose the right type of exfoliant for your skin type - either chemical or physical.

13/01/2024

As the Australian Open swings into action, let's talk about the importance of adequate sun protection for your skin. You know that that UVA and UVB rays can significantly damage your skin and increase the risk of skin cancer. But did you know it will also prematurely age your skin and lead to skin sagging, wrinkles and pigmentation problems? Our team recommend broad-spectrum sunscreens with at least SPF 30+. Remember, reapplication every two hours is crucial, especially if you’re out watching the tennis 🎾🌞. Stay sun-safe and enjoy the game!

12/01/2024

Fact or Fiction: A high SPF guarantees all-day protection.

Fiction! 🌞🚫 A high SPF sunscreen does offer better protection against UVB rays, but no sunscreen can provide all-day protection. Sunscreen, regardless of its SPF, should be reapplied every two hours, and more frequently if swimming or sweating. This is crucial as the effectiveness of sunscreen diminishes over time, especially with physical activity or water exposure. Moreover, a broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential to protect against both UVA and UVB rays, both of which can cause skin damage and contribute to skin cancer risk.
