Let’s start the year off with a positive birth story!
This beautiful mama reached out to me just before xmas at 40 weeks pregnant. Prior to doing the Hypnobirthing Australia Program she was ready to book an elective caesarean as she was so fearful for her upcoming birth due to a traumatic first birth!
So grateful I could help support this mum to shift her mindset, feel empowered, get educated and have the tools and techniques to get her through her labour and birth and have a positive experience this time round!
Please have a read of this birth story and thank you to this beautiful mama for allowing me to share!
I am just a message away if you would like support and guidance in preparing for your upcoming birth! Don’t go into your birth blind knowledge is power!
🤫The quiet moment post birth!
🌸As a midwife I love witnessing this moment when Mum has done all the hard work and all regular observations and checks are done for a minute and there is this ‘quiet moment’. It’s just mum, partner and bubs and there is a sense of relief and sometimes disbelief that your baby is finally earthside!
👶I love to keep the lights dimmed, step back and witness this beautiful moment you all get to have with each other in the fresh hours of getting to know your baby, and checking out all the little features.
🙌This is normally the moment of “we did it” or “thank god that is over”
🥹It can be a very emotional moment! There is no right or wrong way to how you may feel post-birth and sometimes it can be very different to how you imagined!
🌸While we can’t always predict what those first few hours post-birth will feel like, it’s important to be informed and know what happens post-birth so that you can have your preferences outlined in your birth preferences.
💓It’s a time that the room is full of love, empowerment, joy, relief, exhaustion & happiness!
📸 I love to quietly capture these moments for families! So don’t mind me if I just sneak your phone to capture these beautiful moments!
✋Don’t let anyone rush your moment you take as long as you need!
🌸Everyone deserves to feel this moment no matter how you birth your baby!
❔How did you feel in the first few hours post birth?

🤰Labour and birth can be challenging at times and sometimes forgetting or avoiding to do the small things can impact your labour and birth by;
⏳ A longer labour
🤕 A more painful labour
😤A harder labour
💉An increased chance of interventions
🙌These tips are simple and effective and if I was you I would be showing my birth partner these tips so that they know to prompt and support you when you’re in the midst of it all!
🙋♀️If you're looking for more tips and tricks to help you prepare for a positive birth I would love to help support you!
📝Share below if you have any other essential tips you don't want our future birthing mamas to forget!
Yes, surrender Mama!
🧘♀️Release and let go!
➡️To do this you need to trust your body, and feel safe and supported so you can surrender and welcome those surges!
🤰Your body knows how to grow your baby without direction and it also knows how to birth your baby!
💭When your mind and body are prepared for birth you are setting yourself up for the best chance to have a positive birth however that may look for you!
🤰Your body knows what to do! Trust the process, your body and baby work beautifully together when given the best chance!
😌A relaxed mind allows your body to do what it needs to do and this allows the hormones to flow and the birth process to unfold!
🧠Turn off the neocortex part of your brain (the thinking, worrying part of your brain) and absorb the moment and surrender to the power of your amazing body!
🙌Surrendering in labour & birth can look different for everyone as birth isn’t always black and white it can be a unique journey for each individual!
👏When women are left to follow their body's lead, magic happens!
🤷♀️If you are feeling unsure or fearful of birth and not sure where to start with preparation, I can help support you and help you become prepared, confident, informed & empowered!

🛑What's stopping you from doing hypnobirthing? Do you have misconceptions about it?
😵💫Do you see the word “hypnobirthing” and think you don’t want to be hypnotised?
💉Or do you see the word “hypnobirthing” and think “Na I want all the pain relief so hypnobirthing isn’t for me”
🤰Or maybe you are having a caesarean so you think hypnobirthing won’t benefit you?
🌸Or maybe you think hypnobirthing is for hippies who want a “drug-free natural birth”
🤱Or maybe you think “I have given birth before so hypnobirthing won’t benefit me now”
⬆️These are all examples of misconceptions of hypnobirthing!
🌸Hypnobirthing is designed for absolutely anyone who is wanting to approach their birth preparation by releasing fear and being prepared with knowledge, support, tools and techniques to help them achieve a positive empowering birth in whatever way that may look for them!
🙌Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program offers a comprehensive and holistic approach, that allows women to approach their birth with the most relevant evidence-based childbirth education.
😵💫The ‘hypno’ part of hypnobirthing refers to the hypnotherapy that we use to help us release fears and condition our mindset to help us release natural endorphins to positively feel calmer and more relaxed during your birth.
📚Hypnotherapy is just a small part that is covered in the program!
We also cover ⬇️
✅ Knowledge about birth, your rights, and special circumstances
✅ Your birth partner's role and how they can support you!
✅ Optimal positioning for later pregnancy, labour and birth.
✅massage techniques
✅breathing techniques
✅and lots more!
🗓Hypnobirthing Australia programs cover all varieties of birth; vaginal and caesarean.
🤰Your birth journey is imprinted for the rest of your life so are you ready to invest in your birth?
🙋♀️Please reach out if you are interested in empowering your birth experience and wanting some support and guidance in your birth preparation!
🎶Have you got your birth playlist sorted? Or are you undecided about whether to have one?
🎵Here are some benefits of having a playlist as a birthing tool when it comes time for your birth:
1. Music can calm the room and reduces unnecessary chatter
2. Music can help trigger the release of good hormones!
3. Music/relaxation tracks can create distraction from pain sensations as your brain is diverted to the sound of music!
4. Music can help you go to a happy place when certain songs come up or bring back happy memories!
5. Music can help keep yourself calm and benefit your heart rate and blood pressure and result in good hormone release of oxytocin and endorphins.
6. Music can help you be in a much better headspace if you need to make decisions along the way!
💁♀️Top tip
🎧Start your playlist throughout your pregnancy and start listening to it during your pregnancy & in the lead-up to your birth when you are relaxed! As you listen to this music during your pregnancy when you are relaxed it will help you feel calm and happy and have beautiful visualisations of your birth and your baby! This will help condition your mindset for when the birth comes around and you have your playlist on for those relaxation and love hormones to release!
🎵Have hours of songs/relaxation music added to your playlist😉
🎺I as a midwife have also heard every kind of music genre in the birthing room there is no absolutely no judgement add whatever makes you feel happy, safe and calm!
👩🍼Listening to your playlist into your postpartum will always bring back memories of your pregnancy and birth when you hear certain songs!
🤰Caesarean mamas also can have a birth playlist. Have a chat with your caregivers if this is a preference for you to have the music of their choice going whilst their baby comes earthside.
🤔Do you remember what song your baby was born to?
🎶Was music a positive birthing tool for you?
🌸 I understand that sometimes when birthing in hospitals and making choices or having a voice can be scary because it can be easy to go with the suggested plan by your caregivers. I’m not suggesting you go with or against the plans but I want you to feel confident to have a voice and not be afraid to ask questions and to know your options! There is so much power in knowing your options & having confidence!
🙏Please never think you are being confrontational by asking questions or asking for more time this is simply just
advocating for you and your baby!
🙌A great acronym that I teach in the hypnobirthing program is the “BRAIN” acronym.
⬇️
✨Benefits- ask your caregiver “What are the benefits for baby and mum”
🤰Risks- “What are the risks for baby and mum?”
🤷Alternatives- “Are there any alternatives?”
🤔Instinct- what is your instinct telling you? Have you got a gut feeling? Based on knowledge, not fear!
🙅🏻Nothing- nothing…” What if we do nothing? Is it an option for more time and wait to see what pans out”.
⬆️This technique is a great way to approach special circumstances that may come up along the way in your birthing experience!
👩🏫I provide you with lots of examples in the program of when you and your birthing partner can use this acronym!
🙋🏽Your birth partner having an appropriate voice in a birth room is not a partner that is controlling this is a partner that is advocating for you and your baby and your preferences whilst you can stay in a calm focus! Hence why this acronym is important for your birth partners to know!
❓Did you feel you and your birth partner had a voice in your birth?
🤰Or do you feel confident with knowledge and preparation to speak up at your birth and know your rights?
🙋♀️I can help you gain confidence and get prepared for your birth if you are ready!
🌸 Client Feedback🌸
“Thank you so much for all that you taught us in the hypnobirthing course!
I have learnt so much and as an anxious person, I am feeling more prepared now.
The TENS machine was really helpful, I used that from probably 10am Monday until some time Tuesday morning. Thank you for lending it to me, not sure I would have handled the early labour as well without it!
I made up affirmation cards like you had with your own photos with the quotes, that we put up in the room and had lots of compliments on them!
The hyponobirthing definitely helped me be more positive about birth and not panic so much”
🌸Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your journey and birth preparation! So beyond proud of this beautiful Mama and her partner who chose Modern Birthing Co to help them get prepared and empowered for their Positive birth experience!
✅If you are ready to invest in your birth I am here to help provide you with the knowledge and tools for a positive birth experience no matter how you want that experience to look I’m here to support you!
🤰Back pain in labour can be very challenging mentally and physically for women during all stages of labour!
👶Back pain is normally associated with the position of your baby not being in the optimal position. If you hear your baby is in a posterior position (baby’s back facing towards mum's back) then this might be the reason you are experiencing back pain during labour!
🤦♀️When experiencing back pain in labour you are looking for relief desperately and usually wanting a quick fix!
❓So what to do if you're experiencing back pain during labour?
➡️My number one tip is to get prepared with knowledge and tools that can help you with pain and to know what options you have before your labour starts!
🧰We know that pain can cause a lot of tension and fear and can then prolong our labour or lead to interventions, so if we can avoid this or get on top by utilising the birth toolkit that we have already prepared, this will then have a positive effect on our bodies to do what it knows what to do and to keep our mindset strong and focused!
➡️Swipe across to check out your “back pain” toolkit for labour!
🙋♀️If you find this helpful and want to learn more check out the Positive Birth Program course where I can help support you and your birth partner get prepared with all the knowledge and toolkit you need to have an empowering birth!
🤰My top tools from my birth toolkit were the tens machine and placing it on at the very beginning of early labour and my 2nd tool was leaning over the birth ball in the shower with the warm water running continuously on my lower back 🙌
🌸Did you experience back pain during labour and what did you find helpful?
⬇️Share your tips on what worked for you below for our expecting Mamas!
🤰Hello pregnant Mamas!
❓Have you booked your independent birth education yet?
🙋♀️If not I have you covered! I am here to help support you in getting prepared for your positive birth however that may look for you!
🌸The Positive Birth Program is much about mindset as it is about techniques for childbirth. When a mother and her birth partner can approach birth with appropriate knowledge, a positive mindset, good support and tools (visualisation, movement, touch, acupressure, relaxation/self-hypnosis and breathing) then
birth can be a positive and very empowering experience regardless of the type of birth you have!

🤰Don’t put off your birth education, birth is a huge life event that has an impact on life!
⏳The ideal time to do the Positive Birth Program is from 24 weeks, send me a message if have any inquiries!
🪷 Your baby’s home & safe place, your uterus! An amazing strong organ that allows your baby to grow and develop!
🙌Having an understanding and visualisation of how your uterus works in labour can be a powerful tool!
✨We cover in the Positive Birth Program how this amazing organ works in labour! We look closely at ways to work emotionally and physically with the process and give you an insight into what can interfere with the uterus working effectively!
➡️The best way to help your uterus work its muscles effectively is to have a calm environment where your oxytocin is boosted you are calm, you feel safe & you are informed and prepared!
🪷Keep in mind your uterus is an organ that doesn’t need to be told what to do during pregnancy nor does it in labour! Your mindset and knowledge are important when it comes time to surrender and go with the wave motion of your muscles working together rather than fight in tension & uncertainty!
➡️Swipe across to read more on how the uterine muscle work!
🌸If you are interested in learning and preparing yourself more look no further than the amazing Positive Birth Program!
🌸Placing your baby skin-to-skin on your body has been scientifically proven to be one of the best things you can do!
🥰Having skin-to-skin with your newborn baby who you have grown inside of you for the past many months has so many benefits for mum and baby! Babies have a big transition from the womb where they are safe and warm then out into the big wide world, so it makes complete sense why bubs would be most calm when snugged up on their mummy!
🙌No matter how you birth your baby there shouldn’t be any reason besides if your baby or if mum is needing medical attention to why you can’t have immediate skin-to-skin. You deserve this uninterrupted ‘golden hour’ if not longer time to have with your baby!
🤔Do you know the benefits of skin-to-skin with your baby post-birth?
👶For baby
✨skin to skin significantly reduces their cortisol (stress) levels.
✨It helps to regulate your baby’s heart rate, breathing, temperature & your baby’s blood sugars.
✨Assists with your baby’s ability to absorb & digest nutrients!
✨babies will normally open their eyes for the first time and gaze up at their mummy!
✨transfer of good bacteria to baby from mother.
✨reduction in crying
✨smoother transition from the womb to earth side as skin-to-skin in that 1st hour enhances lots of biological and physical changes for baby!
🤰For mum ⬇️
✨ The rise in the mother's oxytocin during the first hour after birth is related to the establishment of mother–infant bonding
✨ earlier expulsion of the placenta
✨reduced bleeding
✨lowered maternal stress levels.
✨ The mother is attracted to the infant's smell, facilitating a chemical communication between the two.
✨improves breast milk production.
✨supports early breastfeeding.
✨boost in maternal-baby bonding & connection.
🌸This can be a sensitive period immediately after birth and it’s important that this unique experience is recognised and valued so that we give mum and baby the best opportunity to experience the natural behaviours occurring during this special time!
➡️Swipe across for some midwife Shae’s tips on skin-to-skin with your baby!
😨Are you worrying a lot about birth or feeling anxious? Are you fearful of birth?
✨Nerves can be normal and also can be healthy & there wouldn’t be one person that wouldn’t have some nerves with their upcoming birth!
✨If you are having fear, or anxiety, spending a lot of time worrying or scared of pain or have had previous birth trauma it’s important and powerful step to have a discussion with your birth partner to know of each others fears and not hold onto them or take them into the birth room!
✨Your thoughts and fears can be really powerful! How you and your birthing partner feel about birth will impact your labour!
✨The Positive Birth Program can help change your mindset about birth and give you a beautiful understanding of what your body is made & cable of doing!
👏This course will help you understand the affects fear can have on the physiological process of birth!
🙌My mission is to reduce fear in women and birthing partners and to put all the knowledge, tools, trust and wisdom that they will gain from the course into their birthing experience!
👌When you are prepared, informed and confident believe it or not but you will be excited for your labour and birth!
➡️Giving birth shouldn’t be your biggest fear it should be your greatest achievement and a positive experience!
👍Head to the link in bio to find out more about classes available or if you are having some concerns and fear send me a DM to have a chat!
❓How are you feeling about your upcoming birth?
🌸Birth Preferences🌸
✍️If you have them write them down, begin the discussion early with your care providers and your birth support partner! Do your research and start educating yourself on what you would like for your labour, birth and postpartum!
🤰Sadly we still hear the phrase too often of “nothing goes to plan and just go with the flow” but this is why we call them “Birth Preferences”! This is your labour and birth, and your wishes should be respected and accommodated too! We call them ‘birth preference’ as we know we can’t plan our birth from start to finish line. All birthing women have rights, I urge you all to know your rights so you can be specific with your birth preferences!
🙌As a midwife, I love when women have birth preferences because this shows me this is someone who has done her research and has prepared for her birth! This helps assist me to do my very best to help support her and advocate to achieve her ideal birth!
👏Having a birth preference for any type of birth gives you a sense of control and a voice for your body and your baby! All these factors can lead to a positive birth and reduce the likelihood of birth trauma!
🤔Are you feeling scattered about what to do? Are you feeling unclear about exactly what you want? Or how you want to birth? Or how you want to be supported in your birth?
👍🏻I can help you, come and do a positive birth course with me where I can help support you to align your preferences with the knowledge and tools you will gain!
🌸My birth preference was so respected and supported by my team, of course, not everything was ticked off my preference but this is why it’s a preference. I had preferences for all circumstances and I can say I might not have had the ideal birth I wanted but I had a positive birth!
📧Send me an email or DM if you are seeking some support with your birth preference!
❓How did your birth preference go? Was it respected?
🌸Signs of early labour🌸
✨This can look different for everyone but sometimes being the first birth you can be unsure of when labour is starting. Some may experience one or more of these signs or some may experience no signs.
🤰We all get a ni**le or feel something different and get excited and think could this be it?
⬆️So here are some early signs to look out for. Please note this is different for all!
🤗It can be an exciting time when you do get a clear sign as your body might be preparing for labour 🤞🏼
🙋♀️I should point out that sometimes it’s also common to have these signs and then still no sign of labour for days or weeks!
🤪False starts of labour can be a real mind game, so it’s important to stay positive and know your body is starting to get prepared!
✨At the end of the day, labour will start when your body is ready and only 5% are born on their estimated due date!
🌸In my positive birth program I prepare you of what signs to expect & in the lead up to your birth!
🙌If you have any concerns please contact your maternity caregivers!
Hypnobirthing Australia’s Positive Birth Program is 12 hours of childbirth education that will provide you with the knowledge, tools and education to have a calm and positive birth!

🌸The 4th trimester is a pivotal moment in a mother’s life as much as it can be a blurry time when we look back it’s also a time a mother will remember in many years to come who was there for them and who wasn’t!
💕I understand it’s hard to ask for help when you’re not really sure yourself what you need and it’s also hard to reach out for support when you feel pressure to look like you’re managing fine!
👩🍼But for your present & future heath and your healing process if you get offered some help accept it or please don’t be afraid to ask for help!
🗒️Ways to help support mums and partners in the 4th trimester and beyond:
🛍️Offer to run errands
🙋♀️Lend a hand fold some washing or do the dishes
☕️Make mum a tea, coffee or make sure her water bottle is filled up!
💝Maybe buy mum a gift instead of bubs, a voucher for a massage, slippers, fresh new pjs or some lactation cookies & tea!
👍🏻Ask if she is ok?
Give her a safe place where she can feel open to talk or cry and tell you how she is really feeling and coping! Make her feel heard, listen and support her with the process.
💕Sometimes all mamas need is a non-judgmental empathic ear.
😘Tell her/ remind her how amazing she is and what an amazing job she is doing!
👶Offer to take other children to park or dog for a walk!
💕Don’t forget to keep checking in, the 4th trimester can be very isolating for a new mama don’t take offence if she doesn’t reply, but don’t stop checking in!
🌸Postpartum is forever and sometimes the hardest days hit when the excitement dies down and reality and sleep deprivation kick in! Ask if she would like some company!
👩🍼Offer to babysit down the track when mama is ready! Or when visiting suggest to mum if she has anything she would like your happy to mind the baby!
🔁And lastly repeat and continue to repeat all the above!
🌸If you know someone who has recently had a baby and you know they don’t have much support please reach out to them to check in, a simple nice message can go along way!
