Missionbeat
Mission Australiaโs homeless outreach service, Missionbeat, patrols inner Sydney streets seeking out those in distress and offering them support.
Operating every day from 7am to 10.30pm, our iconic vans transport homeless men, women, children, families and intoxicated or drug affected men and women to services to meet their immediate needs, including safe accommodation, medical care or food and clothing. Missionbeat responds to public calls for help as well as calls from police, ambulance, community services and government departments.
A massive THANK YOU to the and Good-Will Au for organising a food drive for rough sleepers. An amazing total of 5 trolleys worth of non-perishable food donations were received.

The food donation to has already begun being distributed to our rough sleepers.
The generosity and support of The Lions Club and Good Will AU is so greatly appreciated!
"Thursday evening I was leaving work a little late and I noticed a person sleeping in Green Park. My team had checked on him during the day but he had declined any assistance. As I approached his sleeping spot I could see he was lying directly on the ground covered in nothing more than a thin hospital blanket. I heard him saying to himself how cold it was. I called out to him to let him know who I was and asked if he would like me to call Missionbeat to get him some warmer sleeping gear. He said โyes pleaseโ so we called Missionbeat together on speakerphone and they told him theyโd be there to assist him in 15 minutes. He declined any other assistance, appeared otherwise well, so I left to walk home, making a mental note to check in on him tomorrow if he was still there.
๐จ๐ A call to Missionbeat for a welfare check is often the first step in the person getting connected to a range of other supports, including human connection, crisis support and housing support (absolute legends and a critical service). If you ever come across someone sleeping rough that needs support, I strongly encourage you to call them ๐๐จ
The next day was the street party, and I was incredibly busy coordinating the event. During the event, at peak busyness, someone to my side quietly spoke to me - it was the gentleman from the park last night! He said โMiss, I just wanted to thank you for helping me last nightโ and I told him how absolutely welcome he was (while my heart nearly burst), and let him know that there were housing services and Missionbeat onsite today if he was interested in finding some accommodation so he didnโt have to sleep out tonight? He was happy to do this, so we took him over and introduced him to the teams where he received support with temporary accommodation and was linked in with a caseworker.
This was a realtime reminder of how difficult it is for many of our clients, who have been let down time and time again by systems and people, to trust services and accept support. But sometimes there is a moment of opportunity, when humanity overcomes trauma and that person feels safe to accept support."

Thank you so much to for donating much needed sleeping bags to the team for our rough sleepers!
The ongoing support and generosity of community is so greatly appreciated ๐
During the morning volunteering at Early Bird Cafe we had the team from Orange Sky on site kept busy with their washing facilities and a visiting van from Missionbeat offering assistance to our guests.
According to chef Chris, his team from our club consisting of Franki, Nick, Colin and myself prepared and served 140 bacon and egg delicacies, 47 hot and savoury rolls, two litres of chicken soup, various cold savouries, full pot of porridge, cereals, teas, coffees etc etc. The chicken and veggie soup was a novelty that Chris had acquired from somewhere and was very popular with the guests (and volunteers too!)
We were a little understaffed on the day so kept very busy although number of meals served may have been slightly down on recent weeks. With the warmer weather approaching maybe the early start might be a little more appealing to our volunteers than in the past few months of Sydneyโs colder than normal winter?
We love our doggy friends at
Many rough sleepers have pets, especially dogs. These pets are usually looked after more than the person themselves. Pets with rough sleepers can often be their lifeline and best friend. We love all street doggies ๐
