To be able to support a woman through her birth is beautiful.

I'm holding this little 2 hour old baby while mummy has a shower. On a high, birth is amazing.

Breastfeeding doesn't always come easy. Doing a prenatal breastfeeding course is a great way to help you understand the benefits of skin to skin contact, benefits of colostrum, when your milk comes in, how to latch baby on properly, positions you can use, is baby getting enough milk, babys poos and wees, what's normal, also help with problems that arise along the way and so much more.

Also, reaching out with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in your area before you have your baby is a great way to have support ready if you need it once your baby is born.

You will get lots of advice from people telling you all different stories and recommendations which can become very stressful and confusing. Set yourself up with a professional you like and trust, and remember, breastfeeding is a journey you both have to learn. It can take time and patience. Baby's change their needs as they grow, and they all feed differently.

If a cesarean section is the path you are taking for the birth of your baby. Remember, you can still have skin to skin when baby is born, as long as you and baby are well.

A Birth Tens Machine can be a great distraction in early labour. It sends electrical pulses through your skin by placing small pads on your back. These pulses help take the attention from your surge that is travelling to your brain, helping you be distracted. It has different intensity levels and a boost button that increases the intensity when you feel your surge building up.

If you want to use a Tens Machine for your labour, I suggest you try it out beforehand. Please don't leave it till you are in labour to get out and try. Know how to place the pads on your back and have a go to feel the sensation.

If you don't like the sensation, please don't rule it out, as you might change your mind once you are in labour.

The Tens can't be used in the shower or bath, but I do recommend this little machine for your tool kit in labour. 🥰

My client did amazing at 34 weeks pregnant. Controling her breath, meditating, staying calm, swaying, and moving through her waves of labour. Her and her husband were an amazing team. Having a beautiful birth, delivering on all fours on the bed. Welcome to the world baby girl. I feel so proud and amazed by the women I support. 🩷

Postpartum support is so important for mums and families. Postpartum support for families can be so different depending on what they are experiencing and what challenges they come up against. I don't think it is expressed enough how much mums and families need to feel supported after birth.

This is me looking very emotional after going through a cesarean, which I did not plan or think for one second I would have after having two natural water births.

I wish I had prepared myself for what could happen, so my mind was at peace when it did.

It's so important to cover every situation in birth. You never know what road you will go down. At least if your dream birth doesn't happen, you had exhausted every avenue along the way, knowing you tried everything to make it work, but sometimes intervention is the best for the health of you and your baby.

Seventeen years ago, I gave birth to my first son. Born in the same bath as my daughter 9 years before. This is a beautiful memory of a beautiful birth. 🩵

These balls are great to squeeze through your labour surges. You can lean into them, roll them along your jawline, shoulders, or back. 😍
