Bilateral breast reconstruction with free DIEP flaps for a brave patient who is a breast cancer survivor (no implants were used)
The patient had a bilateral breast mastectomy (breast tissue removed) and bilateral breast reconstruction with DIEP flaps (fat and skin from the lower belly are relocated to the chest to rebuild breasts after mastectomy). Blood vessels are reconnected under the microscope in the chest area.
The abdomen is also tighter and the skin is smoother due to the fact that fat and excess skin were collected for re-creating the breasts (similar abdominal procedure with abdominoplasty).
Results are presented 1 month after the removal of the monitoring skin paddles and 12 months after the first surgical intervention.
Surgical procedure duration: 6-8 hours
Nights in hospital: 4-7 nights
Post-operation recovery: 4 weeks off work, no heavy lifting/ intense exercise for 8 weeks, no driving for 3 weeks.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty is an operation aimed at restoring the appearance of your eyes by removing excess skin and fat while tightening the surrounding tissues.
To effectively address tired-looking eyes, I prefer a comprehensive approach that considers the entire periorbital region: the temple region, the eyebrow, the upper eyelids, the lower eyelid skin and fat pads, and the orbital rim of the lower eyelid.
Furthermore, fat transfer makes a major difference in achieving a vibrant and fresh look with eyelid surgery. The fat can be placed in the temple, upper eyelid, infraorbital area and sometimes in the upper cheek.
During your consultation, we will discuss the best approach for you, considering techniques such as upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, lateral brow lift and fat transfer. The goal is always to achieve a natural, restored look that reflects a younger version of yourself.

It was very exciting to be part of the team that participated in this series that has been filming at St Vincent's Hospital - The Hospital: In the Deep End. It premieres Thursday 6 June on SBS and SBS On Demand.
In this ground-breaking series, three Australian icons with a unique connection to the health system go beyond the headlines to find out. Host of Gardening Australia Costa Georgiadis, food writer and TV host Melissa Leong, and actor Samuel Johnson are thrown out of their comfort zones and join our team at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney’s frontline.
Within the series, I had the privilege of contributing to the breast cancer reconstruction for an inspiring breast cancer survivor.
Tune in to witness the incredible stories of resilience and compassion that unfold in "The Hospital: In the Deep End."
