Our CEO Gohar Yazdabadi represented COTA NSW at the NSW Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) Health Forum. MACA advises the Minister for Seniors, Jodie Harrison MP, on matters affecting the needs, interests, and well-being of older people in NSW, and on the impact of the ageing of the population. It was exciting to be in the room with like-minded organisations all advocating for the best health outcomes for older people in NSW. The Minister for Health, Ryan Park MP, spoke about the importance of the NSW Government investing in preventative health measures to assist older people to stay out of the health system that is already facing significant challenges. COTA NSW looks forward to working closely with Minister Park and his team to come up with innovative solutions. It was also good to see our immediate Past President and Life Member, Joan Hughes in her capacity as the Chair of MACA. #HealthyAgeing #PositiveAgeing

Around 3 million Australians have mobility issues. That includes people with disability, aging Australians and those who are injured. Last year, governments across the country agreed to make changes to the National Construction Code so that new homes were accessible to all Australians. At the upcoming Building Ministers Meeting, the three million Australians with mobility issues will be watching intently to make sure every government implements these changes as agreed. It’s time to make Australian homes accessible for all Australians. #buildingbetterhomes #nationalbuildingcode #buildingministers #buildingministersmeeting #accessiblehousing #disability #peoplewithdisability

We're proud to join Housing for the Aged Action Group in calling on the NSW government to take action to address older people's homelessness. Older people are increasingly at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and we need to act now: over 110,000 women over the age of 45 are at risk of homelessness in NSW. The NSW government can tackle this issue today. Here's what they need to do: ▢️ Establish a specialist housing service for older people. ▢️ Lower the age for priority housing. ▢️ Increase the stock of social, accessible & affordable housing. You can hear the stories of some of the brave older women who've experienced housing insecurity and homelessness in the video below πŸ‘‡ Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3Hq1ZpX.
