We are VERY excited about this week's episode of The MumSafe Movement Podcast and specifically inline with Women's Health Week we couldn't think of a better advocate than

Jana is a two times world champion and four times Commonwealth champion in the sport of athletics. When continual injuries hampered her athletic career which we talk about in the podcast were likely related to her first birth experience she swapped the track for the ice, joining the Australian women's bobsled team and becoming the first woman to represent Australia in both a Summer (2000, 2004) and Winter (2014) Olympic Games.

As an Olympian and Mother of six turned Obstetrician, Jana has studied Midwifery, Reproductive Medicine and fertility, she's been part of research in the womb transplant space and supports the work of the foundation , is an ambassador for the and has also completed a Doula course.

Jana is the author the her latest book 'Enough' and she brought the topic of incontinence and pelvic health into the public forum after her incredible appearance on Channel Seven's SAS and is doing her utmost to start conversations and bridge the gap even further between medical, allied health and the fitness industry.

To say we loved this conversation is an understatement. Knowing just how far we've come and yet how far we still have to go having Jana's voice advocating for Women especially in the field of pregnancy and postpartum holds incredible value.

As a Midwife and MumSafe Trainer Anita of shares that informed consent to all her patients is high priority. All women deserve to be informed and educated.

Every woman should be allowed to experience the birth that they want. She understand things can change suddenly however educating and informing the couple is vital to minimise the effects of birth trauma long term. Her goal is to be actively involved in their decision making about their care while in hospital.

One of Anita's birthing mums, Vanessa share's her experience:

Reflecting on my own experiences, I'm reminded of the profound impact midwives have had on my journey. From the care during labour to the reassuring presence in those first precious moments and the days following.

I had the privilege of meeting Anita, a pillar of strength and compassion who stood by me as I welcomed my third child, Frederick. In just two hours, Anita became more than a midwife; she became my rock, honouring my birthing choices and empowering me every step of the way.

Standing beside her was a student Midwife who got to witness a woman birthing upright for the very first time. I will never forget the excitement and joy she shared after Fred's birth.

To every midwife, thank you for your commitment, even on the toughest days. Your tireless efforts and endless compassion do not go unnoticed. You are the heart and soul of maternity care, shaping experiences and touching lives in ways words cannot express.

A special thank you to the incredible midwives at

Birth Trauma Awareness Week - MumSafe™ 18/07/2024

This week is Birth Trauma Awareness Week.

The theme of this year is ‘Informed Consent’ to highlight the crucial role it plays in respectful maternity care.

MumSafe Trainer Jacqui of had a positive experience with informed consent and her story goes to show how the care and attention of one wonderful medical professional can make all the difference.

"Towards the end of my pregnancy with my first child, we were told that baby was ‘measuring big’ and that we should book in for an induction or caesarean.

Every person in my care team, with the exception of one midwife, supported this notion.
That one midwife who took the time to educate me on my choices, discuss the risks, and support my decision to trust in my body’s ability to birth my baby…led to an incredible, unplanned home birth!

While that wasn’t in our plans and came with its own challenges, the experience was magical and one that my husband and I are grateful for every day…and it’s all thanks to one person who encouraged me to advocate for myself and my baby."

We need more medical professionals like this one ❤️

Informed consent is crucial in childbirth because it respects the mother's autonomy and ensures her choices are honoured. When mothers are fully informed, they can make decisions that align with their values and preferences.

Without informed consent, mums may feel powerless and experience trauma.

We must create change by advocating for informed consent in every birth 🌼

Thank you Dani of Newy Fitness for Womenfor sharing your story as part of this weeks
・・・

“There was so much I wish was different about my first birth, to this day, almost 5 years later I still get flash backs and wish that I had asked more questions, and wish that things had been different.

Thinking back now, when I was up on the table minutes away from having an emergency c-section, only to then be told things had improved and I could try for a vaginal birth.

I wish that when I asked the doctor “what would be best to do in this situation?” he would have offered me information around the potential outcomes of going back in to labour vs having the c-section that was so urgent only minutes before, rather than just saying “I can’t tell you what to do”.

Had he done this my recovery, my mental health and that precious first year with my baby could have been so different.

I’m so thankful for all the hard work organisations like ABTA, and the other amazing humans working in the birthing space are doing to drive change and I really hope that it does create a lasting change for more positive outcomes for the future.

Our Story

Behind every great business is a great story. There is heart and soul behind everything that we do here at Body Beyond Baby. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and let me tell you the whole story.

In 2008, Body Beyond Baby was born, just three months after the birth of my first child. Blessed with a baby that slept and with a couple of years experience in personal training, I found myself surrounded by new mums who didn’t know how to exercise and who struggled to carve out time for themselves once they became mothers.

What began as myself and a few mums running around in Sydney’s Centennial Park, soon became one of the biggest and most well-known Mum-Focused Fitness Businesses in the East and beyond. Early partnerships with Women’s Health Physiotherapists guaranteed the best possible support for mums, and the Body Beyond Baby brand became a leader in the mission to ensure every woman is well informed and exercising safely and effectively after having a baby.

After the birth of my daughter (a non-sleeper) in 2010, I experienced Post-Natal Depression. This experience inspired me to not only support women physically but emotionally too; building support networks through exercise and bringing women together when many feel they are going it alone. Furthering this ambition, I have recently become an ambassador for COPE (Centre of Perinatal Excellence) and I urge any struggling Mum to reach out for help sooner rather than later. [www.COPE etc]
