Yuhana is a ceramic and figurative artist (with social community work background and long years of experience working both with individuals and groups). He has a special connection to clay culture since childhood also silversmithing and boatbuilding as per his ancestral professions. He was born in Baghdad, lives in Sydney and traveled the world so this has impacted his practice. He started practicing ceramic in Melbourne 2010. He likes to create with concepts, forms, shapes, functions and textures. He believes working with clay opens up many creative possibilities and its very grounding activity. His practice sits on the edge between ceramic and sculpture. In his art, he admires simple, natural aspects and forms. Also, how the imperfections in an object are actually what gives it personality, connective and perfect with its natural narrative. His main source of inspiration is our mother nature. Through clay, he never stops learning and his ultimate happiness is “when my hands become full of mud!”
Neshma (nee-sh-maa) is Yuhana`s best four legs friend - Labrador. Their relationship started when Yuhana saw Neshma (6 weeks old in that time) in Marrickville and they fell in love from the first sight. Neshma is very important part of Yuhana`s pottery/ceramic`s journey.
Neshma has been involved in many ceramic workshops in Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and he is known by name. Neshma provides comfort, ease and happiness to all he comes in contact with. Neshma means (breath - soul - morning breeze) in Mandaic language (eastern Aramaic dialect).
NeshmART Creative Studio is our dream that we would like to see it in reality oneday. NeshmaArt Creative Studio is managed by Yuhana Nashmi (the bearded potter of Liverpool).
