As the sun sets on 2022, I feel very grateful for this past year.

This year my long road as a casual academic ended after landing my dream job as a music lecturer at the Australian National University. It is hard to explain the feelings of purpose and meaning I have experienced in the 6 months since starting. I thank in particular my wife, Jill, for giving me the support I needed to be competitive in getting this job.

This year I also received a book contract from Routledge, had two publications, was elected to serve for another year as treasurer of IASPM-ANZ (Popular music studies organization), and wrote 25 songs for my new album (which I have now shortlisted to 15 and will track in January)

But most importantly, this year, Jill and I welcomed our baby girl, Mae. She’ll be turning 1 in January, while Jack starts his last year of Kindy before school in 2024.
