My Word for 2022 01/01/2022

My first Blog post for the New Year!

My Word for 2022 My word for 2022 is 'Unfurl'. Gentle, delicate, slow change. From wrapped up or packed away, to open and alive.

31/12/2021

My touchstone word for 2022 is 'Unfurl'

To open up slowly, stretch out and take up space.
After hunkering down and bracing for impact for two years, I'm ready to unfurl.

Many of my gorgeous readers will remember the interview with Melinda of The Truffet Emporium
https://www.hermiddleage.com.au/post/melinda-the-truffet-emporium

The Truffet Emporium continues to blossom as a business, so when Mel reached out and asked me to write a couple of light hearted poems for her Artisnal business and mail order hampers, I was happy to help.

It was such a buzz to recieve all of these delicious treats with one of my ditties printed up on their information card!

Melbourne's lockdowns have been unbelievably tough, but Mel has turned that into a huge positive by building a fantastic business to be proud of.

It's fantastic that Abba are coming back with new music and a virtual concert. I'm definitely getting involved.

To be honest, I would have loved their avatars to look the way that they do today.

We've already had the young Abba, it was glorious.
Why try to go backwards?
This is a new phase.
The music has grown and developed, the voices have rounded with experience.
Why shouldn't their faces show the same growth?

I love the Cinema, always have.
The growth in quality, female led dramas is a welcome improvement too.
My new article is up. If Lockdown is going to keep me away from the Cinema, it's not going to stop me thinking about it!!

Movie Time! The Cinema is one of the simplest joys in my life. I love films with Women driving the story, or a strong female angle to the plot.

Wimbledon’s standing ovation for Oxford Covid vaccine designer 29/06/2021

A very British way of saying Thankyou to NHS workers, Health Support teams and all of the highly valued people who worked towards allowing UK to open up again.
Wonderful to see Dame Sarah Gilbert, a woman in full command of her abilities and intellect, get acknowledged for her work.

Its symptoms affect half the population, but it's not often discussed 27/06/2021

Interesting article from the ABC.
I seem to be in a very fortunate position, with a GP who really listens and asks lots of questions.

The old ways of women keeping things to themselves and trying not to complain, serves no-one: not the future generations of women, not their families and colleagues and certainly not themselves.

Why shouldn't we be able to articulate the challenges we are facing? Why is 'Women's Trouble' so inconvenient?

Its symptoms affect half the population, but it's not often discussed Symptoms can be unexpected and can seem disconnected — they can break you or your marriage — and while menopause is a normal stage of a woman's life, its onset can be early and confusing.

It's easy to criticise.
While someone is working hard to achieve or create, the sideline critic is taking the easy option.
Let's raise other women up, not drag them down.

The Seed of an Idea 25/05/2021

6 months of Her Middle Age!
I'm stunned at how this idea of mine has opened so many doors already.
Read the piece that I wrote, right at the beginning, when I was still trying to organise my thoughts.
'The Seed of an Idea'

https://www.hermiddleage.com.au/post/the-seed-of-an-idea

The Seed of an Idea Where Has This Come From? My mind had been restless for quite a few years; I realise that now, when I allow myself the time to examine how I’ve arrived here at this keyboard. I was constantly burrowing away at bits of information, analysing conversations in my head, spinning off on a tangent and t...
