Congratulations Loretta and Alex!

Alex and Loretta met during the pandemic in Victoria and bonded over lots of long walks. We met on one of my Melbourne trips this year and started the process of designing Loretta’s dream engagement ring.

Loretta knew she didn’t want a diamond for centre stone and was drawn to blues and teals. Both Alex and Loretta travel a lot for work and Loretta wanted a reminder of Alex’s beautiful eyes and grounding presence to take with her wherever she goes. She loved the intense blues of Ceylon sapphires and I sourced a stunning royal blue oval. I drew several options with all white diamond haloes or with combinations of blue and teal sapphires surrounding the centre stone.

The winning design has two waves of ombre’ sapphires breaking in to white diamonds that surround the centre stone. To compliment this one of a kind ring we created two different diamond and sapphire wedding rings to sit either side of Loretta's engagement ring. And for Alex a wide brushed wedding ring with a single teal sapphire to tie in to Loretta's ring.

Meet our client's beautiful celebration ring. A starburst of custom cut pink sapphire tapered baguettes radiating from a juicy 2.59 carat natural pink sapphire.

Our client had had a rough few years with losing family members and then wading through the challenges of managing complex estates. All this brought her to thought that you can't take it with you and that she wanted a piece of jewellery that she could love and wear everyday.

We searched far and wide for the perfect centre stone. I couldn't find quite the right stone here in Australia but were able to source in this lovely silky mulberry pink sapphire from one of our overseas contacts. Our client loved the colour but also the slightly more subdued sparkle in the stone.

In designing the ring we took inspiration from a piece I had designed several years ago with teal sapphire and a centre diamond. I also suggested putting some subtle diamond work in the basket setting underneath the ring. Each angle of a design should be considered and the finished piece beautiful to wear.

A project like this takes time and many hands. From our international gem merchants to our gem cutters, my jeweller and our setter with me orchestrating everything in between.

Happy anniversary Pia and Jonathan.

Jonathan proposed with a stunning loose diamond and two sapphires and a set of hand drawn designs that I had created. We decided that with Pia’s love of vintage jewellery that she would love the opportunity to be involved in creating her dream ring.

Jonathan had created the most romantic proposal plan. With the help of friends and a chorus of little princesses they conspired to be have Pia dressed as Cinderella. I had painted a choice of designs that Pia could choose between - or use as inspiration for an entirely new creation. When Pia arrived home she found her Prince Charming awaiting her on bended knee with a ring box containing a stunning 1 carat oval diamond. Pia of course said yes and then yes immediately to the long navette style design.

Pia’s chosen ring design features a stunning oval white diamond framed by blue green sapphires set in a custom platinum diamond and hand engraved navette style setting.
