Bindea- Porcupine Lookout π₯ Students finished their trip to Gunnedah with visit to lookout. With the stunning view of the Liverpool Plains students could where they had been, where story had taken place and how all things are connected.
The Famous Wallaby Trap π¦Students were in Gunnedah last week learning story and about traditional hunting practices.

Mentoring π¨ Students have been continuing to learn how to share story through art.
The O.G π₯π₯ Back in 2018 joined the GCA with a focus on learning how to weave a dance skirt and continue to learn about dance. At this time girls were not participating in dance like we see today. Olivia has helped pave the way for generation change. Now thatβs Leadership!

During mentoring students looking through the garden for things that inspired them to use to carve designs. Once they had a few things they connected them with weaving and went to work. They loved it!
Nhama birraliigal ganunga ngarringilanhi garay winangaldaygu. Burrul garay ganugu maaru guwaaldanhi ASLA method gimubildandaay. Gamilu wadhudhi wurudhaay.
All these kids sat together to listen to language.
A lot of words, all them spoke well while doing ASLA before going into caves.

Check out these fresh new GCA hats!!! Today students were excited to receive our latest range merch. The artwork being used has been inspired by GCA Alumni Nahum Johnson, Kobe Single, and Tom Gwalter.

Inside Moore Creek Caves π¦ Today students learnt about langauge and kinship before visiting the special cave system out in Moore Creek. Daruka is all special Country that holds big story π
Using art to share story π¨ Students have been working with mentors to put paint in canvas and finding their own style of storytelling. We are looking forward to seeing these as the progress.
Following the process π₯ Students spent term 1 learning how to identify, source and split grasses in preparation for weaving. They have spent the last two weeks practicing the stitch with rafia.

A boneyard created by Biya - The Whistling Kite π¦
Students walking the Gwydir Wetlands came across a large scatter of yabby, frog, snake, lizard and fish bones under a massive tree. Biya could be heard flying around the wetlands looking for more food to bring back to its massive nest.

Our Story
The Gomeroi Culture Academy (GCA) is a culturally focused leadership experience supporting young people living in Tamworth NSW. The GCA offers consistent mentorship and provides an opportunity for young people to learn more about Gomeroi culture, and build on and strengthen their personal identity.
The GCA provides a formal learning pathway that harnesses the strength and knowledge that exists within our community to support our young people to create positive change.
The Gomeroi Cultural Academy is designed and delivered by the Gomeroi Dance Company and Yinarr Maramali, who have been, both formally and informally, mentoring young people in the local community for over a decade.
