Fellow business owners:

Please be aware that a ‘Business Directory Scam’ is currently doing the rounds, specifically targeting small cleaning businesses.
I know because I was the intended target of such a scam today.

For those who don’t know what this kind of scam entails, basically the cold-caller tries to convince the business owner that they need to increase their online presence by agreeing to list their business details on a database (that they probably have never heard of).

They will claim that this is a completely free service, but usually upon receiving the paperwork, there will be some fine print stating that there is a hefty fee of some description for the service and that they are now obliged to pay it.
Because many people do not bother to read pages and pages of fine print, they get swindled out of hundreds or even thousands of their hard-earned dollars.

If the scammer found you online in the first instance, obviously you DO have an online presence and therefore do not require an additional online listing.
This is particularly true in the case of small local businesses who primarily rely on word of mouth to acquire valued local clientele.

In this instance of the particular bozo who targeted me today, he wouldn’t take no for an answer and gave himself away with his hard-sell tactics long before I told him to f**k off and hung up in his ear. 🤭

Moral to the story?
Don’t mess with ladies who aren’t afraid to put their head near a strangers toilet.

There is indeed a reason we have grown to be this resilient.
Most of us have graduated from the School of Hard Knocks long ago and can therefore spot a con artist miles away.🥳

If you contact me to enquire a potential future booking and I don't hear back from you with confirmation within a few days of said enquiry, I will offer the timeslot to the person next in line.
I have introduced this policy to save my own time as well as yours.

When I first started out, I wanted to make a positive difference in my community (even if it meant severely undercutting myself).
As such, I initially offered a fifteen percent discount to those who present a current blue pensioner card.

Please note that as my hourly rate is already very competitively priced and with the rising cost of fuel and living expenses, I've come to realize that offering a lowered rate on top of this would essentially low-ball myself out of business.
I apologize that I cannot feasibly fulfil this initial intention and as such, all maintenance cleans will be billed at the same hourly rate.

With a current police check, abn & insurance, I bring my products, equipment and labour to your door.

Regular maintenance clean for individuals (weekly or fortnightly) is a competitive flat rate of $40p/h - minimum 2 hr booking, maximum 4 (depending on availability).

Intensive, one-off cleans are also available (individual quotes vary).
I quote per job rather than per hour for these.

My initial walkthrough (quote) attracts a $10 fee, refundable after the 1st clean is complete & paid for in full.

Taking the time to examine everything from a fresh new angle is paramount when it comes to delivering an amazing clean.
The same philosophy also holds true in other areas of life.

What might look shiny and appealing from one perspective may actually require closer attention when viewed in a different light.

Likewise, when you're having a dull day... always remember to look for the silver lining in that dark cloud.

Regrettably I have decided to introduce a $10 initial walk-through fee to help cover the cost of my time, fuel and a quote (fully refundable after the first clean is complete and paid for).

The reason for this is because I have turned up to a number of jobs where the other party abruptly decided not to honour our original arrangement or alter their job description on the the date I arranged to work with them.
This is NOT ON.

Not only is it not fair on me, but it is not fair on others who I have had to turn away due to my schedule being full.

I am hoping this new policy will deter time-wasters and low-ballers who do not appreciate that I am just a working mother trying to make ends meet and provide for my children.
I'm all for fairness and flexibility but my time, money and fuel matters too.

I will make reasonable concessions for illness and injury but not a last minute change of mind.

To all those who have been open and upfront communicators, I humbly apologize for how this may affect you or others like you who continue to do the right thing.

I get that life can get busy and people do not always have the time to tend to mundane cleaning tasks of a daily basis.
Heck, I'm a working mum (cleaner by trade) and at times when I am sick or overworked (or my own kids are sick), even I struggle.
So to all you busy and chronically tired mums & dads out there, I totally get it and I am here for you ❤️

What I am not here for however, is cleaning of a hoarding or dangerous mould nature that has clearly been accumulating for a number of years.
I also won't take on anything that is a clear and substantial risk in any way to my own health and wellbeing.

If things are that severe; if you cannot be honest with me and are blaming everything from a broken toe to your children for a problem that has clearly been sn*******ng out of control for many years (yes, I was actually fed this string of reasons from an able-bodied individual in my own age group), you need to enlist the help of a professional counsellor who can assist with the mental health aspect of the situation.
I am not qualified to assist you in that regard.

You will also need to look at hiring a biohazard removal service, or at the very least, a company who has the proper training, PPE, time and expertise to deal with these sorts of extreme issues.

I have had A LOT of experience dealing with some pretty grotty things over the years (for example I have one son with severe autism who sometimes likes to try to fingerpaint in some of the most unimaginable stuff), but my own health and wellbeing is something that I must prioritize, always.

Biohazard removal companies will likely not accept thirty or forty dollars an hour for the job but you will at least get the job done, without anyone becoming sick or injured in the process.

And yes, I'm also well aware that people who have debilitating physical ailments and learning disabilities are at an increased risk of falling through the cracks and spiraling into a situation where their house no longer feels like a welcoming home.
I feel for you, I truly do... but this is not my area of expertise.
Agencies such as the NDIS should be able to assist where I cannot (or at least point you in the direction of an organization that can).

To reiterate; although I strongly empathize with all people caught in these situations, I also have personal and professional boundaries that I must maintain.

Knowing when to draw a clear line in the sand to protect myself, my family as well as my future livelihood is a crucial part of honouring those boundaries.
