McCubben Highland
Highland Dance Studio
Originating in Scotland, Highland Dancing is an energetic form or dance. It focuses on stamina, agility, deportment, technique and timing.
McCubben Highland had only one student represent us at the competition in Ayr yesterday. Very proud of her performance demonstrating her improvement in technique worked on in class the last couple of weeks. Well done!
Semester Two starting soon, some slight changes to the weekday Timetable.
Round One of 2024 exams were last weekend. A lot more relaxed time in the waiting area this year, more smiles - great to see you enjoy your dancing. Another grade accomplished, well done dancers!
Day Two of THDAI's weekend of competitions saw our beginner and novice return for the Northern Heather Titles and Competition on Sunday. A very enjoyable bonus day. Congratulations! Well done girls! Awesome work!
Two of our dancers enjoyed their day at the Townsville Highland Dancing Assoc. Inc.'s Barrier Reef Highland Dancing Championships and Competition on Saturday. Entering Beginners and Novice sections respectively they went home with smiles and rewards for their hard work.
Our youngest student was the only one to represent our studio at the Burdekin Eisteddfod on the weekend. She had a very rewarding time for the work she put in. WELL DONE! Many thanks to Burdekin Eisteddfod sponsors for her section: Burdekin Bookkeeping Services, BCD Supporters Inc, Dalriada Highland & Irish Dancers and Bruce & Cheryl Medley.
Thank you, Townsville Highland Dancing Association Inc, for your comp on the weekend, a great start for the year. Our Beginner level girls enjoyed themselves.
Classes have recommenced for 2024. Great to see everyone back. Under 7's and New Beginners classes are vacant. We would love to see some new dancers come and fill these spots. We are a home-based studio which allows us to keep fees as low as possible. We are situated on the Heatley side of Kirwan, Townsville. New students welcome any time of year, no need to wait for start of next term. Email me [email protected] is you are interested in giving Higland Dancing a go.
New dance vinyl was down on our sprung floor ready for highland classes recommencing this week. Everyone enjoyed the new look.
Jean & Fiona McFrog would like to remind McCubben Highland dancers that pre-start exercise classes start next week Wednesday 10 January (& Wed 17th) 4pm-5pm or 6:15pm-7:15pm if you can't make the earlier one. Anyone wanting to dance through the dances come along Mondays 8th & 15th Jan. 4pm-5:30pm (Premier finish 6pm). First competition for the year is mid-February. Term One starts Monday 22 January. New enrolments welcome.
Happy Christmas Everyone from McCubben Highland dancing studio 2023 and wishing you all the best for 2024.
Congratulations to our 2023 Honours Badge and Major Exam Badge recipients. This year they were also given a newly offered NDAAI Honour Badge Sash to keep their badges in one place. Honours badges were received by students entered in Highland Grades 2 & 3, and Scottish National Grades 1 & 6. Major exam achievements were for Highland Intermediate. Hard work and good attitude pays off. Well done dancers!
Parents and friends enjoyed our End of Year Display and Breakup last Saturday night. All students received their annual Certificate of Achievement which lists all the Dances (along with step numbers) they have learnt since commencing Highland Dancing along with a list of exams entered and results achieved. Well done dancers!! You have had a great year, quite a few additions on some of those certificates.
Townsville NDAAI round 2 exams have come and gone last Saturday. Thank you to our examiner Mrs Fyffe for making exam day as enjoyable as an exam day can be. Making the day more memorable was being joined by dancers from 3 other studios - FC Caledonia (Ayr), Bella Celtic (Townsville) & Isa Highlanders (Mt Isa). Hope Aviemore (Townsville) had as good a day on Sunday. It was a busy day, and I didn't get everyone's photo; Well Done Dancers! βΊοΈ Check out FC Caledonia's page for more great photos of the day.
Months of constantly retaping split curling floor vinyl joins are finally coming to an end. I've invested in proper dance floor vinyl covering from the same supplier as our sprung floor which promises to roll out flat and stay flat. It needs to be unrolled to relax for 48 hours before installing, so rather than disrupt classes, that will happen over the Christmas holidays. Looking forward to next year. π
Enjoying a trip to Cairns this weekend for the "City of Cairns" Festival of Highland Dancing. Well done girls!
Big smiles for a successful day at the Townsville Eisteddfod. Well Done!
Three of our dancers travelled to Ayr last Saturday for the Lower Burdekin Celtic Dancing Association's Sugarcane and Sword Dances competition. All of them danced some personal bests. Very proud of them all. Two received the bonus of gaining some placings, Well Done! Great competition, thankyou LBCDA.
We've made some timetable changes this term to accommodate students' work shifts. Our beginner's class is currently completely vacant, so grab a friend and come and give highland dancing a try Saturday mornings. A great way to develop good coordination, posture, overall muscle tone, aerobic capacity and strength.
Well done girls!
Our dancers participating in the Barrier Reef Championship & Competition. Saturday 17 June 2023.
A worthwhile trip to Ayr for the Burdekin Eisteddfod, our intermediate dancer receiving the Irene Barton Memorial Trophy for Most Promising Intermediate Dancer. This is special for McCubben Highland studio as Mrs Barton taught our teacher, Gwenda Nickson, from 1971 to 1983. Another milestone was also achieved, this was the last signing for Intermediate, moving up to Premier level next competition. Congratulations, well done! π
Welcome to term 2. We have vacancies for new beginners, start any time of year. Small studio Heatley side of Kirwan.
Our dancers enjoyed a trip to Home Hill last weekend for the FNQRCHDI's Qld Championship and competition. Well done! π
