I'm very excited to collaborate with Home Hill State High School Agricultural Department and be a part of their exhibit at this year's Burdekin Show. The students will soon have a new addition to their primary industries plot and will have hands on experience and learn about the importance of pollination in our primary industries sector. It's a great pleasure to be a part of something I'm so passionate about.

I'm absolutely overwhelmed with the community today who not only took the time to drop in and see us, but engaged with the club members, bees and culture. Many also politely waited for an opportunity to chat and learn about native bees. Amongst all that, I called out to come wander over to the stage for a world record waggle dance attempt and to my amazement a swarm of bee-utiful people followed. And we smashed it!! 😊. All this could not have happened without my family, friends and many volunteers. Thank you Townsville City Council for the months of collaboration to make this happen.

Did you know that Austroplebeia Australis can vary in colour? This is my latest rescue from Far North QLD and I've never seen such Orange abdomens. Commonly known as orange bum AA, the colours and markings on the abdomen and thorax can depend on location and climate.

It’s Pollinator Week across Australia and to celebrate this, the Billion Bee Foundation want to update our friends on what we have been doing since our last message. Thank You Billion Bees Supporters for hanging in with us.

As you know, the Billion Bees Foundation is dedicated to the restoration of Australian Bees in our communities and giving nature back the upper hand.
We have many projects in the bee scape. Our current major focus is dedicated to working with Bushfire effected communities in Queensland and New South Wales, to restock their lands with Australian stingless bees. This is for natural bushland restoration, pollination and to help biodiversity in these devastated places.
In the last eight months the Team have been intensely building partnerships with wonderful organisations who are going to work on rolling out the Bushfire Recovery Project. In Queensland and NSW, twenty communities, devastated by the Black Summer fires will be receiving free Stingless Beehives to propagate and education programs about Australian Stingless Bees
The groups and organisations that we are partnering with include
β€’ Aboriginal Land Council’s
β€’ Men’s Shed Movement
β€’ Bangalow Koalas
β€’ Local Government
β€’ Landcare groups
β€’ And many other environmental community groups as well as individuals.

Our research and development team led by Peter Atkins has consulted with Meliponists including Bob the Bee Man, NnBees, Kings Bees, The Stingless Bee Lady, Urban Native Bees and many others, to perfect the engineering of the hives to ensure that they are robust and can withstand harsh bush conditions, including heat and exposure over time.
We are enormously proud of the results, which ensure maximum protection of our precious native bees. If you are interested in finding out more about this program or contributing, please contact [email protected] and one of the team will be in contact.
This project received grant funding from the Australian Government’s investment in bushfire recovery for wildlife and their habitats.

Other news on our Bee Scape
β€’ Our Schools, Education and Corporate programs are going from strength to strength with more schools requesting hives as well as workshops, which we love to do. Feel free to contact us for more information about the education programs.

β€’ Today we received our first Pollinator Week Donation from Anne and James Wyatt from the Blue Mountains to support the work that we do.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Anne and James. Thankyou!
If you would like to donate to the foundation to celebrate Pollinator Week here is the link. www.chuffed.org/project/a-billion-bees-foundation

Coming Soon.
β€’ The Billion Bee Website – will be the place for you to connect with others that are passionate about Australian native bees. You will be able to find educational resources, learn how to propagate stingless bees and ask a lot of questions of a Meliponists (bee experts).
The Billion Bee Foundation Team, sincerely thank everybody, that has been excited enough, to jump on board and support what we are doing to Give Nature Back the Upper Hand.
Please share our news and build the Billion Bees Foundation tribe by letting others know that we can all help.

So exciting to see a native bees flourishing inland just doing their thing

Decisions decisions!! Where am I putting this piece? Tetragonula Mellipes have some very interesting entrance designs and what a collection of treasures this colony has found.

Turns out the w**d growing all over our work yard fence is a haven for my bees!!!

Photos from Native Bee Rescue & Education North QLD's post 21/08/2021

Just look at that honey and pollen glistening in the sun!!! Who can guess the correct species of this exceptional colony?

20/08/2021

Front Entrance Friday!!! Tetragonula Mellipes holding strong. Something I have definitely noticed with these dry tropics species is their love of combining wood chips and resins into their entrance.

18/08/2021

A new Tetragonula Sapiens Queen. I had
almost given up on this queen cell but she finally
hatched and is looking fit for duty. Best thing is the
workers have been making queen cells in a panic that
haven't been capped so I'm going to have some now
laid in for future duplications. That's a double win 😜

Nothing makes my day like picking up decorated hives from some very excited kids. Now to transfer some bees and get them back for all to enjoy!

05/08/2021

These beeautiful bees still amaze me every time I open a hive. We found this Tetragonula Carbonaria hive, have there impressive entrance tunnel coming upward with some quite confused foragers returning during our inspection.
