Happy World Cassowary Day! For those who don't know, the cassowary is a large and colored bird related to the emu, native to New Guinea and found in Australian rainforests. Believe it or not, despite its funny-like allure, the cassowary is considered the most dangerous bird in the world!

Its population is about 4,000 in Australia due to habitat loss, car accidents, and dog attacks. Thus, there is an urgent need to draw attention to their role in the local ecosystem and the need to protect them. For example, cassowary spreads seeds of rainforest trees, supporting forest regeneration!

When it’s Monday morning and you just want to stay in bed! 😴

Koalas can sleep for up to 20 hours a day, due to their low energy diet and the intense amount of energy required to break down toxic leaves 🐨🌱

I fell in love with this gorgeous, colourful parrot at Urimbirra Wildlife Park on the weekend - after some Googling, I’ve discovered she is a Pied Mutation Rainbow Lorikeet! 🌈🦜

A pied mutation is when expected color displays in areas on a bird are replaced by patches of other colors that are not expected, as well as some unusual body markings.

Update: this lovely girl’s name is Mango 🧡💛💚

We have a ‘mischief’ of cheeky magpies visit us every day 🤍🖤

The baby in the third photo is missing her upper beak, however this doesn’t seem to hold her back (she scoops the food up with her bottom beak, then tosses it in the air to catch and swallow) ♥️

It’s lovely to hear their happy, warbling calls each morning 🥰

Happy Wrens-day Wednesday! 💙

This curious male superb fairy-wren was spotted in the Laratinga Wetlands.

Laratinga (Lartingga-parri) Wetland was named after the Peramangk meaning for Mount Barker Creek.

The Lion King gave these guys a bad rap! 🐾

A hyena's "laughter" is actually a form of communication used to convey frustration, excitement, or fear. Most often, you'll hear this unique vocalization during a hunt or when the animals are feeding on prey as a group.
