It’s been a while! Here is the speech that Brendan (Yr9), Lily (Yr8) and Noah (Yr11) presented at our last school assembly….

Good afternoon everyone.
Today we are here to give an update on what has been happening in YMCC this term. Our students have been busy with a number of events and youth ministry programs.
At the beginning of the term we congratulated and commissioned our new Pharus leaders. These students have already been busy with running YMCC meetings and we were very happy to celebrate Sister Jiji‘s birthday during one of our meetings with a birthday cake.

We have also been running Alpha every Monday after school and this has provided us with the opportunity to discuss a range of topics like what makes us happy, our faith and other topics. It has been really nice to connect and meet new people.

Students who are attending the Ignite Youth Conference have also started preparing for this event and stayed back after school on Tuesday to get to know each other and register. For the past two years we have had eight students represent MacKillop however this year for the 2024 conference we will have 20 students and three teachers representing MacKillop

YMCC students also served at the College Mass for our feast day. We thank the altar servers, the readers, the flagbearers and anybody else who assisted. We have also celebrated the Parish youth group and youth mass. We thank Ms Goodwin for being the master of the barbecue at our last youth mass. Our next youth group and youth mass is this Sunday on the 25th and all are welcome. Youth group starts at 4 pm. Mass starts at 5 pm and there is a free barbecue afterwards.

Last week Olivia and Noah from Year 11 attended the 3-day Josephite Action Group Conference (JAG) at St Joseph’s Spirituality Centre in Bulkham Hills. Take a look at what our students got up to…

We got to attend workshops, brainstorm ideas to better our community, learn how to communicate effectively, attend Mass, participate in prayer, reflect and listen to guest speakers. Guest speakers over the days consists of Andrew and Janellle who were part of the original JAG team and helped create this experience for young people. Dominique, Steven and Cheryl, Thomas Drake (ex MacKillop student who is still involved!) and Maddie amongst several other guest speakers shared their passions and experiences with JAG to the students attending this retreat. We thank everybody who has taken part in creating this amazing experience for us all!

Hope you’re enjoying your holidays!

On the last day of term a group of YMCC students went to Sydney after school to attend the Launch of the Ignite Youth Conference. Thank you to the students who ran the games before we left and to all the students who attended. The students enjoyed the bbq dinner, had a great time on the dance floor and listened attentively to all the speakers.

We were so proud of the way our MacKillop students represented the College and we received many compliments. Thank you to the hosts and organisers of the event, Mrs Price, Sr Jiji, Mr Webster and Ms Gorman for attending and supporting the event.

Keep an eye out on the YMCC Google Classroom and Compass for the Term 3 form of events.

YMCC Leadership Camp
On Monday and Tuesday, thirty YMCC students from Years 8-12 went to Camp Toukley for
the annual YMCC Leadership Camp. The focus of this camp is to foster genuine friendships
and connections between the students, develop life and leadership skills, faith formation
through experiencing different ways of praying and having fun. The Pharus leaders ran most
of the sessions, including the icebreakers and workshops and we were so proud of the
peer-to-peer ministry that occurred.

The workshops and sessions covered topics like mental health and wellbeing, gratitude,
faith, leadership, and friendships. We watched skits, discussed the future of YMCC and
shared ideas for growth.

The students also enjoyed camp activities such as laser tag, bush cooking, team games and archery. We are so grateful to Sr Jiji and Michael Paton from CSBB who gave us the opportunity to participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the evening.

Thank you to the Pharus leaders for their preparation and leadership on camp, to Olivia
(Year 11) for sharing her powerful testimony, Mr Jason Morrow for his session on gratitude,
and Mr Damien Tomsett for accompanying our students and leading the final liturgy.
We are so blessed to have a supportive community of families and staff who encourage our students to develop and grow in their faith journey

There have been so many times over the past 12 months when these students have stepped out of their comfort zone to meet the demands of their leadership role in Pharus. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them and we appreciate the different ways that they have contributed their time, gifts and talents. They presented some great workshops, sessions and food for thought at our YMCC Leadership Camp this week.

✨Thank you Lucinda, Jypsi, Lilly, Zoe and Georgia for all you have done for YMCC and the MacKillop community. ✨

It’s the second day of our YMCC Leadership Camp. Disappointed that we didn’t get our camp fire last night due to the rain, but the heater is on and we have a full day ahead! Please pray for our students as they complete their final day.

BEGIN THE MONTH OF JULY WITH PRAYER

The best way to start a new month is to begin it with prayer. When we begin something with prayer, we invoke God's presence upon our lives, loved one, family, friends, and many other important people around us by simply sending them happy new month prayers and blessings that will protect and cause an unrecoverable breakthrough in their life.

FYI

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘿𝙄𝙁𝙁𝙀𝙍𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀 𝘽𝙀𝙏𝙒𝙀𝙀𝙉 𝙈𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙏𝙍𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀 & 𝙏𝘼𝘽𝙀𝙍𝙉𝘼𝘾𝙇𝙀:

📌 Monstrance, also called ostensorium, in the Roman Catholic Church, a vessel in which the Eucharistic host is carried in processions and is exposed during certain devotional ceremonies. Both names are derived from Latin words (monstrare and ostendere) that mean “to show.”

—First used in France and Germany in the 14th century, when popular devotion to the Blessed Sacrament developed, monstrances were modeled after pyxes or reliquaries, sacred vessels for transporting the host or relics.

—The host was shown in a glass cylinder mounted on a base and surmounted by some sort of metal crown. In the 16th century the monstrance took its present shape: a circular pane of glass set in a cross or surrounded with metal rays.

—The host is placed in a holder called a lunette, which fits into an opening behind the glass.

📌 The tabernacle is a liturgical furnishing used to house the Eucharist outside of Mass. This provides a location where the Eucharist can be kept for the adoration of the faithful and for later use (e.g., distribution to the sick).

—It also helps prevent the profanation of the Eucharist. Thus the law requires, “The tabernacle in which the Eucharist is regularly reserved is to be immovable, made of solid or opaque material, and locked so that the danger of profanation may be entirely avoided” (CIC 938 §3).

—The word tabernacle means “dwelling place.” Any place someone dwells is a tabernacle. The term is also sometimes used for a temporary dwelling place. Thus the tent-like sanctuary that the Jews used before the Temple was built was called the Tabernacle, because God dwelt there. Similarly, for the feast of Sukkot the Hebrews erected temporary shelters to live in for the festival, which is often called “the feast of tabernacles” or “the feast of booths” as a result.

—The tabernacle in Church is so named because it is a place where Christ dwells in the Eucharist.

There’s so much to look forward to…
Yesterday afternoon the Pharus Team took some time to prepare for the upcoming YMCC Leadership Camp in week 10. This is a camp led by students for students.

Today at break one we will welcome students for Life Essentials. This week we are talking about Friends. Bring your lunch and see you down in the Ryan Centre.

Applications will be open soon for students to apply to be part of the next Pharus Youth Ministry Leadership Team. If this is something you would like to consider, start writing your speech as to why you would be a good candidate to lead Youth Ministry at MacKillop!
