Welcome to our Report Card for MAY 2022

It’s been another month with good safety and efficacy results.

The most outstanding result is that 13 out of 25 patients had lost all of their excess weight and more. Usually we would only expect this to be around 5 to 10%, which is 1 to 2 patients out of 25.

While we celebrate of our great success, there are two patients who did not achieve the expected 60% excess weight loss.

So a gentle reminder, surgery is a powerful and most reliable tool for weight loss. Yet it is not everything.

Best wishes - Dr. Yuan Cheng

Welcome to my page!

Time and time again, my patients asked me questions from what they read on social media. I think, it is time for me to contribute my knowledge and experience to this vast space, as a specialist General and Bariatric (Obesity) surgeon. And hopefully help someone who is looking for answers that might be important to their health.

After graduating from medical school at the University of Melbourne in 2004 and then surgical training at Monash Health, I was awarded the specialist fellowship in General surgery - FRACS, in 2015. From thereon I chose to focus my subspecialty trainings in the area of bariatric surgery.

After spending one year at Eastern Health (Box Hill Hospital) in a dedicated and high-volume bariatric unit, I was met with the opportunity to travel to Belgium to work alongside Dr. B. Dillemans. Belgium was the perfect platform for me to further my skill set and level of expertise, especially in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and complex revision bariatric surgeries.

I’m passionate about helping patients achieve and maintain their weight loss goals and am committed in helping them make the best possible informed decisions about how to do so. By educating and empowering my patients in an environment supported by a team of other specialists and allied health professionals, I aim to ensure they receive the best possible results and achieve significant improvements in their health.
