The team at Monash showed in their recent studies that gastrointestinal symptoms are significantly worse when running at night-time compared with the same duration and intensity in the morning. This suggests that if you are competing in an event with a night-time segment, it would be prudent to include some gut training at night.

Run Smart with Cath Nankervis
My name is Cath Nankervis and I developed Run Smart in 2013 to provide clients with an holistic approach to improve their running and reach their running goals.
Running comes naturally to some people, but for others it is more of a challenge. I am passionate about making running an activity that almost anyone can participate in. I love seeing the confidence and sense of accomplishment that comes when people achieve their goals.
While I have always been fairly fit and active, running had never been easy. After analysing my own running style, I introduced targeted strength exercises, focused on particular running cues, and varied my running training. My running improved and I began to enjoy running! These simple changes helped to improve my running and many others that I have coached.
I have never been an elite athlete but have always enjoyed giving new activities a go. I currently participate in sprint distance triathlon, have enjoyed completing some trail half marathons, and relish the chance to run and chat with friends.
