TPL Trail and Find
Hide and Seek for Dogs. Dogs use scent from an article left by the person hiding to then find them.
The teams had strong winds π¨ to contend with on todays session but that didnβt deter them from working out the challenges set for them ππΌ Some of the elements on todays session included high finds, back tracks and a displaced start, as always at this venue we were very well looked after with tea and cake π° ππ
Hi Folks,

We had three new teams start their mantrailing journey on todays session and all three teams were awesome on their fire trails π Lovely to see all the different breeds, St Bernard, Pointer and German Shepherd being introduced to this addictive sport π For the experienced teams we had water crossings and aged trails π¦ ππ
What was I thinking booking a mantrailing session the day after a busy dog show πWe set up camp on todayβs session and kept the tea and cakes π° flowing throughout the session to keep me awake π
We had a great session working on problem solving different issues each team were experiencing from going into the trail layer and increasing trail value, well done everyone ππ
It was a tad warm π on todayβs session but the dogs coped really well, luckily at this venue they are lots of shaded areas and woodland π²πΏπͺ΅ We had a discussion about how different weather conditions affects your dogs trail and also about reading your dogs body language and recognising when your dog is trailing and when they are not ππ
Not trailed at this location for a while so it was lovely to catch up with everyone on the session and staff who always make us feel so welcome πToday we talked about proximity alerts and how important it is to be able to read your dogs trailing body language so we set up different challenges for the teams to test their knowledge on their own dogs proximity alerts π We had great indications on high finds, walking TL, obvious find and a great scent ID from Lois ππΌ
Busy session today with teams at different stages of their mantrailing journey so the trails were set accordingly, had some great open area starts and good decision making on directional changes, well done everyone ππΌππ
We wanted to work on Scent ID exercises today but didnβt want the handler knowing or guessing (from the scent article) who was the trail layer and who was the decoy so they couldnβt influence the dog π we used sterile gauze pads which were only touched by the Trail layer and gave no clue who it belonged to, great session with lovely indications and a very mixed bag weather wise πβοΈβοΈβοΈππ

Wow π€© what a fantastic location for a spot of mantrailing πacres of fields and woodland with stunning scenery π³β°οΈgreat work from all the teams today ππΌperfect weather, lovely company and a great host meant lots of tea and biscuitsβοΈ and as a bonus itβs a great location for tracking so Bo had a few tracks laid for her and absolutely smashed them ππ Will definitely be back here in August πΆ
August dates will be posted tomorrow and will be available for booking on bookwhen from next Tuesday ππ
Today we had a discussion on the different types of exercises we could include in our mantrailing sessions and then we incorporated some of them π Callie demonstrated a great NSI exercise, we also had Scent ID, contaminated starts and distraction trails, great session and so interesting watching the teams working on the different elements ππΌππ
Busy session this morning with teams all at different stages of their mantrailing journey so trails were set accordingly π Fantastic double blind by Ellie ππΌgreat indication on obvious find for Fred and walking find for JadeπΆββοΈππΌprogression trails for Meg and we had two new teams on Fire trails π₯ starting their mantrailing journey, great company and weather was perfect πππΎ
A great morning at a great location.
Challenging trails and elements to progress the teams.
Well done everyone! πΎπΎ
On todays session we started early and finished early to beat the heat of the sun π Also had some lovely shady trails, quite a busy environment as everyone else had the same idea to walk earlier but the teams did some great fire trailsπ₯ and progressed on distance and difficulty, hope your all sat with your paws up πΎ chilling ππ
This location was busier today than last time we were here on a Saturday - so much traffic about.
The dogs all working amazingly with elements to include road crossings, contaminated article start, back track, open area hard surface start.
However, the prize goes to Callie for a successful find using the handler's own scent article. We wondered why she wasn't so 'on it' as usual. Trainer error but Callie pulled it out of the bag when she picked up on the trail odour! π€¦ββοΈ
Well done everyone! πΎπΎ

Woo hoo we have another private venue close to Ashbourne π Haywood Farm has over 15 acres of land and is nestled in the very scenic Callow Top holiday park and is also situated next to the Tissington Trail, we have a session there on 4th July, looking forward to our first session ππ
Too funny not to share.
Lottie is going along at a lovely steady pace. Gets an early alert, comes back the to the track before going off again and then this happened......π
Oh my goodness what an eventful session this!
The dogs all worked amazingly with fanstatic results. πΎπΎ
Super well done everyone!

On todays session we had a little talk about scent pools and then we worked some scent pools of various designs πso interesting watching the dogs work them and finding the exit points, great work everyone and perfect weather, got finished early before the dogs got too hot ππ
Amazing work from the teams on today's all day session with trails being aged from 10 mins to 30.
Knowing when your dog is displaying trailing behaviour is key to a good partnership and if they are working the scent then let them work it. If your gut tells you they have switched then take action.
We had both today and both ended in successful finds.
Well done everyone! πΎπΎ

This incoming is too funny not to share.
The TL was all set with camera facing the way she came in and lie in wait in the grasses.
The dog over shot slightly but then takes a quick and sudden left turn with the handler cutting the corner in pursuit just as quick and was almost on top of the TL.
The dog carried on a short distance then stopped apparently puzzled as to why the TL wasn't there.
She quickly worked out that she needed to back track a little. πΎπΎ
Great session at this busier than usual location.
Using productive source, 10m displaced starts, dog distraction trail and surface changes were some of the elements covered.
One of the dogs displayed some unusual behaviour which was possibly due to the effect of thermoclining.
Well done everyone! πΎπΎ

The greatest achievement on yesterdayβs session was staying upright πa combination of recent rain and horses π meant uneven ground but the dogs and handlers worked the challenges set them well ππΌaged trails, scent pools, water crossings were some of the challenges set, great session in lovely company ππ
We introduced two new teams to Mantrailing today and this venue was perfect for an induction session, off lead fire trailsπ₯ with no distractions and clean areas with no contamination ensuring they have the best start to their Mantrailing journey through self discovery π
We also saw some great free trails from the other teams, perfecting directional changes and gate indications with no guidance from the handler and we had sunshine βοΈ tea βοΈ and cakes π° Perfect ππ
This was Oscar's final trail of the day and only his second session.
His nose is glued to the ground from the start. πΎπΎ
Today's teams blew me away - both dogs and handlers were on top form.
This included Oscar, who, on only his second session is proving to be a natural and already on blind starts.
Well done everyone! πΎπΎ
